... but the only dumb question is the one you don't ask so here it goes, laugh at me if you like, or answer them seriously is you please, either way i wont think any less of you =) 1. My currency. If I get American Express US Dollar travellers checks. I *can* exchange these for baht, correct? And this is best done at the airport for best rates. 2. I am flying on China Airlines, so if I crash and die, I hereby give SolidSnake 30% interest in my company 3. Where is the safest place to keep my travellers checques I will have on me before I have a chance gto open a bank account? Would (for argument's sake) 6 million baht be safe in a 5 star serviced apartment's safe? 4. I cant remember, I willappend this later =)

1.American Express US Dollar travellers cheques,is just right in LOS.At my opinion everywhere the rate is same rate, maybe +/- some commition. 2.Why not me.... 3.You have insurance of every travel cheque,to the case if it's will be lost or stolen. So you can keep them in every place, just separate the "insurance letter" from them, and write down the numbers os cheques. 4.If you dont remember,so who will?

On point #2. Someone once mentioned that although China Airlines crashes a lot (more than other airlines), at least, most of their passengers survive. Put me in your will too!

When you cash travelers checks they charge per transaction. Better to bring checks in $500 denominations than in $20. Checks are insured just keep receipt or copies all over so they don't all get stolen in one bag For 6 million baht you should be able to get laid at least once.

Sup' kmanrox: ** Not sure where you live so my amounts and assumption are in U.S currency and from the U.S ** Don't want to pee on anyones parade, but why would you bring $142,857 in travels checks?? It's illegal to carry that much money out of the U.S without notifying the customs agent .. not that that should stop you though!! ha ha ha!! But, I think it's much safer to wire the money into Thai bank acount. Or at least part of the money. That's a heck of a lot of money to be carry on your actual persons. If you get demoninations for $500, then you will have 285 of them. WOW!! Can you adopt me?? ha ha ha!! (*Joking*) You'll have a blast in BKK .... "rollin' large" like that!! Kudo's to you!! Oh ... last point. I fly China Airlines whenever I fly to Asia. As long as you are flying from the U.S to Taipei, I heard they use the most experienced pilots, as well as the most up to date 747's. When flying from Taipei to BKK without a stop over in Hong Kong, they also use their newer planes. Just to ease your mind. Have a good one!!

Kman: I like to exchange just a small amount at the airport, maybe $100.00. The reason is that I do not like to change much currency in open view of everyone else. I detest the currency booths on the streets also. I have found a couple of banks where I can go inside and change my currency at the counter. One is on Sukhumvit between Soi 3 and Tony Roma's. The other bank is on Sukhumvit just past the Landmark Hotel inside of the Pacific Tower office building. Sorry, I do not remember the bank names.

ABC: You mention about taking currency out of the US and say "not that they should stop you though". In June, I was going down the ramp to board my plane for BKK at Seattle and I was stopped by a Customs Agent. He explained that they were checking for the amount of currency being taken out and asked if I would mind if they inspected my carry-on bag. Of course I could not say no. They took me to a little area inside the walkway from the gate down to the plane. He asked me how much currency I was carrying, both cash and traveller's checks and he asked to see it. Even wanted to count the cash in my wallet. He actually counted it also. The agent was very courteous and at the end, he asked me to complete and sign a questionaire concerning the experience. First time that I ever had that happen.
