Hey guys,
This is my first post here. Great site... I've been lurking about here for a month or so now!
OK, onto my very newbie type question:
What can I expect to pay ( in baht ) for a metered taxi from the airport to the Nana Hotel at around midnight?

I 've paid 2 month ago just 230 Baht from departure to Grace Hotel... the first one that I asked for a ride.
It's up to you... at the arrival some will asked for 500 Baht some will do it for 300 Baht.
Go upstairs to the departure exit and you will catch the right drivers!!

- time of arrival should make no difference, - if you can be bothered to either going to the 'departures" level, or, as I do, walk out to the freeway, you wont pay any surcharge, figure on 150 bt. into Sukhumvit, but he may opt to take 2 tollways, 30bt + 40bt, - payable by you, and saves alot of time. Also, if going to Nana for example, he can not make a right turn at soi 3 if comming off the tollway, so easier to get out near the soi 3 /sukhumvit rd. intersection, and walk 100 yards, - the advantages of travelling light !

When I arrived a few weeks ago I was quoted 650 baht to GP at one of the desks in the arrival hall . Thanks to the forum I knew better and went to the outside kiosk and was quoted 300 baht including highway tolls.

I just came home from 10 days in BKK. My cab fare from the airport to MS (around the corner from Nana) was less than 300 baht, tollway of 70 baht included. Same from hotel (MS) to the airport. Make sure the cab's meter is on.
During my stay in BKK, a number of the cab drivers tried to rip me off by not using the meter and quoted me prices of 4 to 5 times what it would have cost with the meter on.
On one occasion, I wanted to go to Poseidon and showed the cab driver Poseidon's business card which had a little map on the back. He looked at it for a while, turned on the meter and proceeded to drive. After a bit of driving, he drove into a big parking lot and pointed to the building and said Poseidon. I have been to Poseidon two days prior and the building in front of me was not the same building. I looked around and realized that we were in the parking lot of Mona Lisa (I really had no idea where I was until I saw the Mona Lisa sign.). I would not get out of the cab and insisted that we were at Mona Lisa and not Poseidon. I showed him the card again and after looking at it sideways, he pretended to realize that he drove us to the wrong place. We drove off and ended up at Poseidon. I thought of not paying and have the Poseidon valets call the police, but my time was more precious and I decided not to dwell on this matter and paid him his 92 baht cab fare. If he had driven straight to Poseidon, the cab fare would have been less than 80 baht.

One of the tricks to use in these kinds of cases is to have them take you some place near where you want to go instead of the place itself. For example find the name of the cross street or a nearby legit business and ask them to take you there. Less chance of them detouring to a place where they get a kickback or taking the circuitous route.

mm3, Poseidon is at the corner of Ratchadapisek Soi 17, which is opposite Grand Hotel.
