Just thought for newbies benefit, may be interesting to discuss some of the pro's and con's for selecting either Silom [Patpong] or Sukhumvit areas, for your stay/play. I've been in the Silom/Patpong area the last couple of nights, and it only confirmed the reasons why I very seldom go there, except when duty calls, seems that apart from the Tourists, the next major group of people are shifty looking touts, - and decent looking TGs seem to be a minority. OK, loitering in doorways as I was, I guess made me a prime target, but you just get continually confronted / hassled with offers of Boy/girl/watch/Video etc etc ... all of which are well overpriced. In comparison, Nana, soi cowboy, or even in and around Sukhumvit soi 7, you can by and large observe things in relative piece and quiet, before making a selection ! If you are into overpriced trinkets, or the Gay scene, - yes, no doubt Patpong should be first choice - but in my opinion [don't what the other local bro's think ?] you have a better selection, at a cheaper price, and in a more friendly atmosphere, whilst shopping for a TG, in the sukhumvit area.

I only go to Patpong to relax at COSMO and CRYSTAL PALACE Bar. However, some real cuties can be found in a couple of GG-bars but don't worth what they request for an ST/LT....usually 2.5K/ST 3-3.5K/LT....
For that amount of money I do prefer visiting MPs along Sukhumvit and Sri Ayuttaha Rd where I get my 2 or 3 shots per session plus a good attitude.
I also love the atmosphere at Pow Kung Pao, Dance Fever, Hollywood and the services at my favorite MPs in Ratchadaa i.e. Nataree, Emmanuels and Poseidon. A session at any of these places will cost 2K at most and you can get a nice room, nice chick and good attitude.
Patpong GG-bars are not my cup of tea anymore. Soi Cowboy and NEP get my vote instead. Just my personal point of view....

sauron as i quoted before they are closed due to licence violations. in this case they are using a different name than in there licence and got fined for four weeks. should be reopening in about 2.5 weeks again!

I liked the Crystal Palace and Cosmos Bars. Nice low hassle place. I also enjoyed the Star of Light and Kangaroo Club both BJ bars. These places are all in Patpong. 7 days but whose counting.

Granted, some of the bars in Ppong are perhaps better stocked than those in Sukhumvit, or especially in soi Cowboy - actually at the moment the talent on show is poor, I figure this is because the good sorts are currently off with a "Sponser" who is here for his holidays, or are being bar fined early/nightly ... But I just find the hassle / Touts etc. round Patpong more trouble than they are worth, - and certainly not as safe, or cheap, for people who don't know the ropes -

same for me used to hang out a lot on th epong in my firts days here. but my interest has shifted frompatpong to mainly nana and even much more lately to soi cowboy.
i also prefer a lot more the mp scene now, then i used to do in my early days in thailand!

Well, somebody needs to speak up for Patpong, so it might as well be me.
Like most people, I prefer Cowboy & (especially) Nana, but I don't think the Pong is nearly as bad as it's cracked up to be. Sure, the in-your-face touts can be a pain, but you can easily get used to brushing them off without really noticing. I get more fed up with that stupid nightmarket, which can really slow you down.
I think the key to Patpong (at least Patpong 1) is to realise that it's geared 4-square for tourists. This explains the apparently over-aggressive and mercenary attitude of BGs there. They're used to dealing with a high proportion of newbies, stop-over tourists and the like - so the short-term moneygrab is the main name of the game.
That said, once you get known over a period of time - ie, they get you taped as an expat or regular visitor - things change. And in the low season, especially, I haven't really noticed that much difference from Nana overall. In fact, I'd say that a few of the Nana go-gos are more aggressive than some of the PP ones.
Anyway, over the past year, I've found some wonderful BGs here - very good attitude & excellent in the sack. It's a gross generalisation, but I also have the impression that the PP girls are marginally better educated than elsewhere and that there are slightly fewer from Isaan (if that matters).
In terms of looks, I don't think there's much difference. Part of the problem is that KC1 & KC2 get billed as the show places - but imho, the quality on view there is now inferior to several other PP bars. King's Corner, perhaps the most touristy bar of the lot, has a very high proportion of stunners (I'm talking about the girls!) as well as a good party atmosphere.
In terms of pricing, I think the ST/LT B2.5/B3.5k structure is for guys straight off the plane. For those who manage to look like they know BKK from a brick, I'd say B2k/B3k is the 'going rate' - ie, B500 more than at Nana. To compensate, drinks are usually a bit cheaper.
At any event, I can't see any good reason to write PP off - especially in the low season. Admittedly, it does get a bit hairy at this time of year.

have to agree on the pp scenario that once you are know as an local the attitude does change a lot. still the night market and the tourists can be a hassle. also i am living on sukhumvit so it is a longer ride over to pp than to nana or cowboy.
still some fine places on pp such as safari, lucifer, and the strip from camelot to king2!
