Hi all,
I have a few questions. First off, I'm not Thai but look like one. I'm an asian and many times the local thai mistake for for one of their own. I noticed that they always check my id before I go to the gogo bars even when I'm with my thai chic. Do the not allow thai guys in? I never heard that it was against the rules or anything so I was just wondering...it's a pain in the behind to always show my id. I do look in my twenties and not underage or any such. I did final get an answer when I as the doorman and the girls inside. They said that I look like Thai Police and I wanted to laugh. No wonder they always touch my socks first...and I thought I had nice socks on all this time lol.
It also seems so of the thai chics don't like to go with thai guys because when I ask the waitress to bring them over...they say no because I look like thai. I have to explain that I'm not thai...but fortunately most of the bars know me by now. It does seem to me that the girls like me more than usually when they know me because I look like thai ...so ironic. I guess they can go places with me and don't get judged.

First, I am thai.
Secondly, the police have been trying to curb the wildness of this city. The 2am closing times and 20 year age requirements are relatively new laws in this city and they're becoming more stringent on it. But they don't card fahrangs.
As for gogo bars, I don't go to them. I don't know if thai's go to them, none of my thai friends do. So it may seem odd for a thai to go there as they seem like western hangout places. Dunno, i don't go there so i don't know. Its also probably the case that the thai girls working there would prefer a fahrang because they are more likely to pay more. If a thai is going to spend more than 1000 baht, he's not going to do it at a go go bar.

I'm Thai as well. If they really though you were a police officer.... they certainly wouldn't be patting you down.

Look at the bright side of things. If you look Asian (read chinese), you will not be hit by a falang surcharge at the soapies. Thats a saving of between 500-1,000B each time.

Hi all,
I know that most thai guys don't like to go to gogo but prefer the MPs and other local area. I don't know about the local thai guys but I feel that most asian are more generous than the farang...just an opinion and no offence taken. I have talked to a few thai foreigners that I saw in the gogo bars..mostly from the NYC area and visiting thailand...and that have no problem going to the gogo bars.
I don't think I get treated like a local because I don't speak the language. The girls are more comfortable with me though because of similar cultures, etc. They don't get look down when they are with me at malls and other public places. I think just treat them nice. I'm going to thailand again in the middle of august.
I don't get overcharge at MPs...so that where I'll be going a little more this time around.

Depends on which Thai guys you mean. Big money types shop upmarket and wouldn't be caught dead loosing face in an agogo. Small money types can't afford it and probably wouldn't be let in anyway. Most bars don't want the potential hassles: fights, scenes with jealous boyfriend and husbands, alienating farangs and jkaontafs. Cops you can't keep out.

I'm asian, and get mistaken for being a local almost everywhere I go in SE Asia until I open my mouth. It works for you and against you.
You can walk down the street, and some of the touts will not bother you because they think you are local. If you are wearing obvious western stlye or something else, that might not be the case.
The bad thing is sometimes the ladies don't bother looking at you because they think you are local. It will take a little work from there but not impossible. If anything else, you always have another choice while you are there, someone else who doesn't mind your ethnicity.
