I've read a few threads on racial profiling in Bangkok. It seems to be geared more towards Middle Eastern men. Don't understand why but oh well, not my country. I have been trying to find information on how Hispanic/Latinos are treated in Bangkok? I'm American born with a Hispanic background which translates to brown skin (light), brown eyes, and shaved head (i use to work for the airlines and everyone seemed to have their head's shaved...was the natural thing to do...i liked it, so i keep it that way). I dress casually and do not look like your typical Los Angeles Hispanic (eg. gangster type and such). I believe I'm fairly well spoken in English and Spanish. I guess I'm wondering if I will be treated differently....in a negative way that is by the locals and when visiting bars? I realize that I am a foreigner in a different country so I expect a little staring. But, I'm pretty peaceful and don't cause any trouble...just out to have a good time. BTW, in case you haven't caught on...this is my first time to Thailand. Anyway, any help would be appreciated! Hope to share my experience with you all when I return. I'm going in Mid-August.

Hey brother Cal, welcome to the brotherhood. What you said above pretty much says it all. If a lady you're interested in isn't interested in you then just move on because I guarantee that you'll find 100 more that are interested. Just treat the ladies with a little respect and a lot of kindness and you shouldn't have any trouble. Also try to be as generous as possible because being tagged as a cheap charlie by one of the ladies has a habit of getting around to the other ladies fast. Trust me, that's a title you don't want ( Hansum man, well that's another story  ).
I'm a black man and I've been to LOS 3 times and never had a problem with anyone so you should be okay. One word of warning though. Since you are brown skinned I'd advise you not to bother going to Soi 7 beer garden as they now have a policy that no blacks are allowed inside and they might mistake you for black. Better safe then sorry ( No big loss anyway ).
Last but not least, keep an eye here for the date of the Aug. round table. If you're there at that time I would highly suggest that you attend. Meeting some of the members of the Jedi brotherhood can be very rewarding, and meeting the Jedi master himself is a reward unto itself. Peace

I can not help perpetuate the USAn wrong thinking of "hispanic" as a race and as you say "a Hispanic background which translates to brown skin (light), brown eyes". If you are one, at least you should know better that such is a general wrong missconception by many USAns.

I am from Spain, and i think i look similar to you. Thai people assume I am Italian. Thai girls said me "handsome man" (o.k. before, nowadays I have a "permanent" shaved head that reduce my sex apeal) I and my friends have never experienced any kind of racial problems in all our visits.
By the way, I am satisfied by knowing that my idol Smegma can write spanishe.

I think you mean "stereotypical": my idea of a "typical" LAH is a guy who puts on his pants, hops in his car, and goes to his 9-5 job.
I have no idea what happened at the Soi 7 BG but I'd wager it has something to do with the Nigerian drug dealers who used to lurk around Foodland on Soi 5. Sorry to hear about this blowback on decent people of color.

You will definitely be treated differently, maybe even ostracized, at several places at Nana Entertainment Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Patpong & Pattaya.
But any such unwelcome will be strictly limited to THESE PLACES. Everywhere else, the Thais' will welcome you with open arms (as they do to any person) if you behave correctly.
I do believe that you will be surprised, even overwhelmed, by the typical Thai friendliness. You should have no problems at massage parlors. You WILL have no problems at other cities in Thailand.
I feel that you won't be missing very much if you give
Nana Entertainment Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Patpong & Pattaya, a complete miss. You can get similar, perhaps better 'entertainment' in Phuket.

OH NO! Last thing I need is to have a following of admirers. That brings too much responsibility. Some before led me to believe that everybody hated me by repeating that time after time (even by PM). That was more fun, as I thought I was pissing all with my posts. Now I find that some like me ... what will I do now? Would I have to start writting very sensical posts like Arcadius and Arramsey? On the issue of some guys having a trait of a Tolteca, Guajiro, Quechua, Arawak, Maya, Caribe, Yanomami or any other amerindian look (not to be confused with the more handsome moorish mediterranean  look that Spaintaktak certainly refers to) in some cases it has its advantages. Some members have previously reported being confused with locals, thus helping them avoid the farang surcharge at MPs.

EDIT: Zipper, non-sense. One of the real forum idols, he himself says he shares those looks, and from his posts it become obvious that he is very welcomed in all p4p places.

RTB, do not forget Japanese and Koreans. I think those come on top of the list.
The Brits were also very bad in the past, but they have made serious efforts at reforming themselves since they left India in 1947. In general every society that didn't know better, at some time or another was more or less racist towards those who were different. Most progres regarding racial harmony in the west has been achieved in the last 100 years -and still there is a long way to go in many places.
However, regarding msocal and his question, for the purposes of a holiday and fun, he should have no problem whatsoever. Afterall, he is not asking for the hand of a hi-so girl.
