OK,... since I can only post once per day, I would like to put a couple questions down and see if anyone can honestly answer them. I have checked in other threads to make sure they arent already answered. Didnt have time to look through all of them, but ive never seen a forum with so many intelligible, nice, and honest people before, so I know my questions are in good hands.

1. I got Hep A & B shots, plus malaria pills...do I need any more? I am from USA, be staying for 4 weeks.

2. I have a "route" planned, about where I want to go and do, but I do not have hotels reserved, etc. I am basically winging it... is that not a good idea in thailand?

3. any places to totally avoid? southern thailand (bkk-Krabi)

4. does anyone know where there is a "tiger temple"...where you can go and see wild, yet tamed tigers that monks have raised??? I have heard that they are in thailand.

5. I thought I had more questions,... guess not. If anyone has anything they would like to say that may halp a first timer backpacker going to thailand alone, let me know. Maybe ill meet up with some of the bros from the forum! THANKS TO ALL.

you can post as many times as you like during a 24 hour period.
there was a rule about 1 new thread a day,but I think that has now gone by the wayside.

as to your questions-where are you travelling to?
an idea to have a hotel booked for your first night in LOS,you don't want to be walking the streets looking for somewhere to sleep when you arrive.
there is much info on this Forum about Hotels and do a search on the web for names you see and you will be able to book.
i would also say the same about anywhere you are travelling to.

when I first visited LOS I had every imaginable vaccination available, but after that never bothered.
yes there are risks to be had,but if you are careful you should have no worries.
no fighting with mangy dogs or drinking from backwater streams and suchlike.

don't know of anywhere which has been deemed unsafe for travellers.
a bit of 'religious' trouble down in the very South which is a bit nasty, but confined to Thais.
but stay away from Chonburi, there is a Man who was once known as 'the Chang Killer' living there and he has corrupted many a newbie like you.
many will testify to that.

just ask any questions you want and i'm sure many kind souls will help you out.

Kanchanaburi is NW of Bangkok while Chonburi is SE of Bangkok, halfway between Bangkok and Pattaya.

Pick-Up Trucks?,i didn't think they were that advanced in Chonburi......

Hep A & B ??? Malaria Pills???

Your not goin to a swamp in a jungle!! You are going to a major metropolitan capital...you don't need that sh*t. But of course...that is up to you.

Book your hotel ahead of time for the first couple of days.

Book it through this site so BK can make 20 cents.

The rest you can figure out when you get here.

Good luck

DJB1981, welcome to the forum. Teacher has it 100% right. You will have a great time. I'll add... don't take anything seriously here. Learn a few words of Thai. Treat everyone with respect, no matter what they do for a living. Don't get in the habit of wasting money just because you think things are cheap. Meet a few forum members, most of us are harmless

Route already planned? Be flexible, there will be places you see that you like and want to stay longer, places you do not like and want to leave. You can always find *someplace* to stay, no matter where or when. Having a hotel reserved in BKK for the first few days is convenient, then you do not have to worry about it.

Tigers? I personally have not seen any tigers, but a cute FLer tried to bite me last night Do a yahoo.com search for... tiger temple monks

Keep posting in this thread, lot of newbies read it and have the same questions. Use the search engine to find tons of info and opinions.

further to my earlier reply and to Teachers reply.
i was advised to have vaccinations against Dengue,Yellow fever and Typhoid and all the various nasty diseases because I was going to a nasty little 3rd World Country.
i wouldn't bother with all the crap, look at all the Foreigners who live in Thailand.
do you think they have jabs every Week/Month to survive?
just be careful and sensible.

Hello

The Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, I visited it in december, its great, but I would advise you NOT to go with a group and to arive early (like 1.30 PM), not at the "official" visit time 3PM.This way you can actually go, chat with the Monks and see the Tigers really close.
