Hi mate, firstly your football, will be carried if its a major clash, in afl, or league, on the asia pacific relay or sports broadcast satellite. The novotel, or equally even most hotels above 3 star will carry them. In pattaya, royal cliff bayview siam (which can be booked here) are two hotels. Alot of bars,...such as bus stop across from nanna 5o meters down carry origin and important vfl and nrl games. Bars in pattaya such as stoneys, and two others on walking street are australian. If your budgeting check pattaya section, theirs a new hotel (el cheap) in a thread big usa had going pm him. cheers

Hi Dirty Guru, Thanks very much mate for your prompt response. Actually I didnt explain myself very well. What I meant to say was that I will be temp relocating there and will be staying in an apartment. I was just wondering if Australian TV was carried by a cable network or another sattelite network other than UBC. Or do you have to get your own huge dish to get it. Cheers and Thanks Johnny

AsiaPacific is the network you're after. It is linked to the ABC and has the football, ABC news and commercial dramas like Blue Heelers. UBC unfortunately don't carry it in Thailand, neither does TTV. As far as l know you need a dish for it. If you navigate the above link you will find a lot of information regarding programmes and what kind of dish you require. Cost of the correct (large) satellite dish is about $400 from memory. Having said that, if you will be living in an apartment block then you may find AsiaPacific already connected. My sister-in-law lives near Sriracha and l was surprised to see AsiaPacific on her tv, and her apartment is not in any fancy block catering for westerners. AFL games are not always broadcast live, but same day at least. Selected Wizard Cup games were shown last weekend, but sadly not the Blues 102 point demolition of the Sydney Swans. I've noticed at Bustop that instead of the regular satellite, they sometimes take a feed from PNG, complete with PNG commercials. Another idea would be to look at the AFL Website. Last year you could sign up for $27 and get live broadcasts of just about every game over the internet, worked on dial up ok, often a choice of stations e.g. 3AW, MMM etc. Generally excellent reception. There is also a broadband option where you can watch one replay per week within 24 hours of the actual game. Don't know anyone who has tried this. If l remember correctly, UBC have a highlights package on ESPN (?) in the early hours of Tuesday (?) morning during the season. If you're a cricket fan sometimes UBC show important games live e.g. Steve Waughs last match. ESPN at around 11pm have SportsCentre (India) which has highlights of international cricket, cricket being the #1 sport there. If India are playing Australia then they will also show a one hour highlights package (Sunny by Night) after this, but for some reason they rarely list it in any programme guide.

go to Australia TV websit... it tells you what angle the dish needs to be etc... UBC provides the service... but its an extra 3k/month I think, - not in any of their promotion packages when I last checked. The long story... This used to be simple before halfwit Johnny Howard sold Australia's International broadcasting operations... then they realised it was pretty hard to promote Australia to Asians without it, so they bought it back (maybe Aussie politicians are learning some Thai scams)... As for silly f_cking AFL... they used to have free web radio broadcasts... then in an attempt to promote the game internatioanlly, they started charging for it...

FB, 3k per month extra? After installation, the gold package from UBC which includes CNN, HBO, ESPN + about 30 other channels only costs 1,500baht per month total, plus 1,000 if you want the Japanese channel, so 3k for just one OZ tv channel doesn't seem possible. I've asked UBC reps before about AsiaPacific and they usually have never even heard of it. If anyone gets AsiaPacific through UBC then please post the details as l'd love to get it, don't want to buy another satellite dish just for one channel. Also be aware that some of those other satellite services you see advertised are hooked up to satellites that receive very little English language programming and lots of Chinese, Arabic etc.
