this is prompted by a post about the Snake farm, and it got me thinking about planning for my next trip.

I have been to BKK a few times, but only for 3-4 days at a time, and as an extended stop over on a business trip. My time was spent with some shoping at Plattip Plaza and Fortune Tower for DVD's and MBK to look for a hookey Rolex Watch. Coupled with sleeping late, and a trip to the Eden Club, and an hour here and there checking emails as I was officially at work, this is enough to keep me busy over a few days.

What else do you guys do in the daylight hours..?? For me, I am thinking about a longer stay next time, but I am sure that this is of interest for other BKK visitors..

I spend a lot of time on the beach when in Pattaya or around the pool in BKK. When the weather does not co-operate it gets a bit boring at times.

Well for anyone looking for something totally different to do during the day, I recommend catfish fishing at the catfish farm in Bungsam Lan, near Minburi, Bangkok.

The Mekhong catfish is, I believe, the largest known fish in the world - Mekhong fish have been caught weighing over 300kgs. This catfish farm is in fact about a 6 acre lake (pond) packed with over 50 varieties of catfish.

The 'lake' claims to have set several world records for fish over the past few years. Certainly fish well over 100kgs have been caught in the lake and I was told that there are at 150 fish weighing over 50kgs each in the lake.

I am not really a fisherman but I took my brother there about 2 months ago. All rods, tackle, bait and instruction can be hired there for a reasonable fee - I think about 5 hours fishing cost around Bt2000/head. (Serious fisherman should bring their own kit as the farm's rods are set with about 25kg line (or maybe even 25 lb lines - meaning you cant catch the really big ones).

Anyway, we fished from about 2pm to 6pm. We caught about 10 fish of which 6 were in the 7-10kg range (still a big fish by UK standards), 3 in the 15-20kg range and one which weighed a little over 30kg (only slightly smaller than your average NEP fish!!). That fish alone took 2 of us well over an hour to reel in. (Of course the really big ones just broke our tackle and got away!!)

It is all very civilised - you can rent your own hut for a few hundred baht. Food and beer can be ordered and the farm will even come and collect you from your hotel - although we went by taxi (approximately 45 minutes from the centre of town).

Geez....! With all due respect - nothing to do in BKK?! OK, perhaps if one is totally and only tuned in on soapies and small cuties maybe the mind is blocked. But if not - there is a zillion things to do and see! Dont know on what level you are and excursions and tours are perhaps not for the expats, but still: go try them! You might be surprised. Dont laugh at temple sights, river tours etc. They really give you the view of the country so you dont think itīs all about naughty nightlife. I certainly do not recent that but if thatīs all there is, oneīs in a bit of a problem I think. Thailand is a country, a culture and a long history so different from our own. See it and study it at least a bit and you will in the end enjoy the whole thing so much more. I recent the view of the country only being a big "cathouse". It is most certainly not and we all really need to spread a more balanced view so it is not always a relation to naughty deeds the minute you even mention the Kingdoms name. That is really sad I think.

Call me a stupid tourist but I certainly enjoy a visit to the temples and feel the quiet embiance. Another thing can be a laid back river tour ending up at lunch or dinner at Orientals great terrace. Itīs just great!

Or why not just take a tour at Rose Garden? So much to see, so much to do and before you know it itīs evening again and we all meet over a brew!

Have fun!

While you are trying to figure out where to go to, just go over to Siam Square, buy a large cup of coffee at Gloria Jeans, sit on the large couch, and enjoy the view.

Bangkok is a great city. If you don't leave the area around Sukhumvit, you will never know. Try the palaces and temples in the old part of the city such as The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaoe, and Wat Pho. Vimanmek Mansion and the other houses on the grounds is a great place if you like old houses and learning about the history and culture of Thailand. A simple ride up the river for 10 bhat or less gives you a great view of the city. If you like museums, check out the National Museum. Most places can be reached by bus and sky train. The most direct and cheapest method is by bus, but you must get a bus map from one of the tourist offices in the city.

If you like to walk and make the effort, there are even more things to see in Bangkok. The more stuff I saw, the more I appreciated the culture in the city. I had plenty of time for nightlife. If you want to get information, go to www.tourismthailand.org.

all, firstly thanks for some interesting replies.

Please note that I am not saying I have been bored when in BKK, nor that it is a boring place. I am simply trying to get ideas on things to do. I figured getting them all in one thread is going to be helpful to a lot of people, especially things like Abraks fishing trip, with is something I have not heard of before, nor seen on a tourist site.

I am not saying that either, but there are only so many temples and tourist attractions you can see until you run out.

TG watching is always good at malls and movie theatres though.
