Hi Guys, I arrive in Bangkok on Friday night / leave on Sunday morning so would appreciate your advice where to go and what to see. Short trip this time because it’s a visa run from Japan

Need advice on

1. Good hotel near the action [Company is picking up the bill]

2. Good place for a massage / pedicure / sauna [TGF with me]

3. Good place to escape for a couple of hours.

4. Where to buy shoes (size 11.5 / 47)

5. Where to buy off the peg Chino's and some shirts (40" waist 31" inside leg)

6. Where to buy DVD's [the ones in Japan are expensive and mostly in Japanese]

7 Where to buy computer software.

8 Where to buy some watches and stuff

Plan to spend Saturday during the day having sauna + massage + pedicure + haircut + shopping and Saturday evening night out. TGF will meet me at DM on arrival, she's also coming back to Japan with me……..

1. If company is paying go for a 4 or 5 star. I am very partial to the Hyatt but the Marriott is a good choice as well. Both are on the Skytrain so you can get about easily. Hyatt has Spasso's downstairs and that can be a plus if you have a TG. They like going there.

3. Escape to Eden Club and it is an escape. Just lay back and they do all the work.

6. & 7. Pantip Plaza - short walk from the Hyatt. It is the place to buy bootleg DVD's and computer stuff. When buying DVD's of older movies, make sure you get
DVD 9's. I am always buying computer stuff in Pantip. The dealers there are legit for the most part and you are not getting ripped off, but you must bargain.

The TGF will know all of the shopping areas and there are plenty nearby. In fact I doubt if you will have much time for anything else if you turn her loose shopping.

Also consider that japanese dvds are ntsc format, and LOS is pal format, so the ones you buy probably won't play in your standalone dvd player back home.

Thanks guys, I will go for the Hyatt, I have heard that Spassos is ok, the point on the DVD's is a good one, but since I have a multi system the Thai DVD's should be ok.

Any recomenadtions on where to get off the peg Chinos + shoes [large size?]

From what I've read on the internet the Eden Club is a must.........

I wasn't serious with the last post. I was just screwing around.
Hang around "these parts" long enough you'll see a lot of that.

Chinos etc,

Given that you have a short time, the quickest way - Though not cheapest - to get what you are looking for is to take the sky train to ploen chit and walk into Central. You pay about 20-30% over the odds here, but service is good, and the assistants will get you what you want. they cater to richer thais, ex-pats and tourists, so they will be the best place likely to have your sizes. If you had more time to f_ck around, I would send you to MBK, but you might spend a few hours between store trying to find what you want.

IMO:

** 1) I'd stay at the Landmark hotel on the club floor.

http://www.landmarkbangkok.com/

You really can't get a better hotel that close the the action!! ha ha ha!! There is a stop almost infront of the hotel and the Emporium and Robinsons are within' walkin' distance. Not to mentino that Gullivers Tavers is across the street.

** 2) Best MP is: Emanuelle, Poseidon, or Mirage.

For Spa's:

Oriental Spa
The Oriental Hotel
2-439-7613 x4

Grand Spa
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
2-649-8340

There are tons or spa's in the hotels.

** 3) Not sure what you mean by escape.

Gold Class theater in the Discovery Center is a great place to see a movie in style. Lounge chairs in the theater and you can order things from the food area and they will bring it ot you once the movie starts.. including alcohol.

Go Kart Racing at the 39/11 RCA Plaza.

The Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Dusit Zoo, Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo, Damnoen Saduak Floating market, to name a few.

** 4 & 5) Any store in the Emporium or Discovery shopping center.

Another store you can check out is Giordano, which is like Gap type cloths, but much cheaper.

** 6 & 7 ) Panthip Plaza which is located across from the Amari Watergate hotel. It's a large complex with tons of computer shops.

**8) If you want fake stuff, go to MBK (Mah Boon Krong).
For real stuff, you can get it at Emporium or Discovery.

Hope this info helps!! Have a good trip.
