I saw in Beijing and HK some DVD players that were Chinese branded, about US$40. I wish I had bought one, as a collegue got one and it was very good value for money. Region free, and the voltage is ok for europe.

Anybody know where to by this kind of stuff in BKK? I did not see any electrical stores in MBK, and Plantip and the Fortune Tower were PC rather than home entertainment stuff

DVD Players in BKK for 1,600 baht (US$40) ???

Cheapest l've seen have been super special buys at BigC, Tesco etc. At times as low as 2,500-3,500. Not sure about the region free bit at this price level.

Electrical stores all over, just try some other shopping centers. Once you get out of Sukumvit a bit, you'll see them as free standing stores also.

Be aware that some of these 'budget' players are not able to play the 'Pantip' copies.

Remember, you get what you pay for. I rather stay with popular brands as Sony or Pioneer. I think I saw a Sony for THB 4,900 at BigC.

I would be there in sukuhmvit around 24th Jan.
Currently I have a pioneer but an old model (Bought it about a year ago) It cannot play the new photo CD's. I've head that the new payers can play photos that are recorded on the CD's. This saves me the problem of coping the photos everytime on the memory stick of the cammera and then viewing it on the television.
Any help on the location to the above???

Take the BTS to On Nut...Sukhumvit soi 71, you have Carrefour and Tesco Lotus to choose from right near the station.

From the current BigC flyer:

Lotte DVD Player Model DV-5212.
CD, VCD, SVCD, DVD, MP3
DTS, DOLBY Digital 5.1 CH
Function Karaoke
Progressive scan

Reduced from 3,290 to 2,990 baht.

There is a BigC opposite Central World Plaza ( World Trade Centre) in Ratcha Damri Rd. Nearest skytrain is Chit Lom (E1)

Can't comment on quality etc. I'm happy with buying VCD's. Usually half the DVD price. Quality is similar to VHS and as l'm not really interested in most of the extra items they load on to DVD's it suits me fine.

When l think about it, l haven't seen the 2,500 price recently. Maybe something after New Year or just prices are a little higher than they used to be.

Rajbir, doubt if you'll get what you want at the lower end of the market but check out BigC anyway as they will have all sorts there. Also you could check out the electrical section at Central for some more upmarket items.

Technical correction: That's Soi 77. That Tesco-Lotus is connected to BTS by a sky-bridge, you'll probably want a taxi to go to Carrefour. Good luck finding someone who speaks English though.

There's also a sh_tload of electronics shops in Ploen Chit Center if I recall correctly.
