I'm not sure I've ever seen GAP or Banana Republic here so can't comment on them, but I have bought Guess shirts in Bangkok and they seems cheaper here than in Australia. Typical price here is 3000, compared to around 4000 for exactly the same shirt in Sydney. Sorry, I have no idea how much they sell for in the states. FCUK is roughly the same ratio. You can buy original FCUK gear at Central Chidlom which is around 70% of the state price in Sydney shops. Of course, that is before the ubiquitious discounts are offered here.

I've found them to about the same or higher than the US considering that department store sales in the US will usually have better prices. I don't even bother buying the name brands there because of this so I like buying the local fashion there. Brands like Soda and Courage.

I usually only purchase from street vendors in BKK, but I did buy a few things at “XL for Men” (or something like that) in MBK. I got a Izod long sleeve casual shirt for about 1/3 the price it sells for in the US (I found the identical shirt in a department store in the US). But I can also find stuff that is heavily discounted in the US at stores like Ross, Marshall's, etc. But just glancing at the stuff in the big BKK department stores like Robinson, Central, etc, I didn’t any bargains. Name brand athletic shoes in department stores are about the same price as in the US.

As a rule of thumb I try the following ymmv. If the article is manufactured in Thailand, then you will probably buy at a good price. If the article is not manufactured in Thailland, i.e., Nike sneakers etc, then the retailer has purchased it at the same price as any store in the world and will mark it up similarily. Many well known labels manufacture in Thailand and that is where you might score. Happy shopping

RTB is right on about designer brands in Thailand. Far less authentic choices and more expensive than Hong Kong or the States. Copies...of course but poor quality across the board. As for original designer brands forget about Thailand. Not only more expensive but selection is far less than elsewhere, mostly stripes...stripes....and stripes. Actually contrary to convential thinking if items are manufactured in Thailand for export to North America and elsewhere then it is very unlikely those items can be purchased in Thailand as they are for "export only". This applies to Tommy, Guess, etc.......
