That has to do with a incompatibility of the particular DVD player (software version) and as nothing to do with the a faulty DVD. Even legal DVDs sometimes fail to work on certain players and there is is list on the Web which DVDs are incompatible. My friend bought a batch of illegal DVDs of which only one worked on his Samsung. All of them worked on my Sony. As, SolidSnake said, watch out for 'zoom movies' which are shot in the cinema with a Handycam. Well, gives a certain atmosphere with heads moving in front and the sound of crisps. If the movie is quite new, be careful. Even if you ask the vendor, he will maybe lie to make a sale.

About MP3's. As said, MP3 compatibility is not default. Manufacturers put a logo on the front of the player. If it has the logo, go for it. No logo? You can bet your bottom dollar it won't play MP3. Here in Thailand most DVD players have MP3 compatibility except for some brands (ex. Sony).

Nope! It WILL probably take VCD's! My Sony 'eats' no MP3 but it does VCD. Also, on many boards it says that my Sony doesn't take burned CDs, only factory CDs. It actually does. It is my opinion that all DVD players read VCD.

Kool, now I can buy a whole bunch of movies on VCD for cheap. Where do I find the "shock video" stuff? You know that really weird stuff they ban in the west? Mykal
