why would you not recommend this workout for someone over 45 or 50 ..

I do that type of workout regularly and I am 61 .. no reason not too ..

Best thing if you start an excercise program take it easy at first.. add to your workout every week..

for example you might start with 20 minutes on the cycle (I have a Lifecycle and really like it) at the easiest setting.. this may feel too easy, but don't worry ...

then next week do 20 minutes at the next hardest setting .. then the next week move to 25 minutes at the same setting .. then the next week 25 minutes at the next hardest setting .. then 30 at that setting .. then once you get to 30 minutes keep increasing the workload until you get that wet t-shirt look and need a shower ..

Weights ... use light weights to start with .. do a minimum of 8-12 reps (I do 20) and then three sets .. as noted you will not build mass, but you will get toned and burn off more fat .. do at least six different upper body (curls, high lats, low lats, bench press, butterfly and military)  .. then work the lower body with about three.. curls, leg lift and leg press ...

Take it slow and within 3-6 months you will be amazed at how much better you look ..

So you eat 10-1200 calories a day at the age of 61 and workout at that pace?  I wouldn't insure you.  No offense.  Do what works for you...

I didn't state that I ate 1000-1200 calories a day..

I said that I worked out that way..

My Cadiologist thinks it is great .. and I don't need insurance thank you .

I have a friend who is 80 and he does a similar workout four times a week and plays golf two days (walks the course in Thailand) and then pigs out at a buffet every Sunday ..

He is an idol for me.. I hope that when I am 80 I am still bonking 19 year olds

Well if you want to be picky about words Oaktoad then if you would look at my post I said I would not recommend THIS for anyone of that age I did not omit the calorie part nor did I use the word workout.  Like I said do what works for you.

I had to drastically change my diet this year not for weight reason but other health factors. Anyway, my advice is stay off dairy products, saturated fats and this might be the hard part, booze, especially beer. During my time doing this I also had to stop working out, and without going near a gym or running the kgs just dropped off.

Yep
You are what you eat.

10 years ago I was 50 pounds heavier than now. I just cut out the fatty foods.

Some interesting quotes, though a little off topic:

1) "You are what you eat"
2) "Hairy Pie"

Which brings me to my even-farther-off topic question ("logic like a goldfish"): does anyone know what the deal is with The Hairy Pie Club over in Washington Square?

ok, since we're all heath conscious here.  Where's the best gym in the Sukhumvit area that can be used on a daily basis???   Most of the hotels that I stay at have not-so-good gyms which is a problem for me.    At home I go 6 days a week.  When I go to BKK it is almost never.

Any suggestions??  And how much does it cost?
