No.... same price.
The limited King's edition is only available in white. So if you want black, you have to go for the regular one.
When I bought it, there was a free wall charger included in the King's edition. I wanted the black one, so I bought a seperate wall charger for 450 baht.
It is my believe that the black one is more popular.

My nephew wanted an iPod for his birthday. 9 years old. Parents didn't want to shell out the $$$ for one, but were tired of him asking over and over. I had already bought him his present and given it to him before coming to BKK in October.
Was in MBK on the 4th floor and saw scads of stalls selling iPods (locked up in cases) and "iPods" (cheap knockoffs out on the counter).
Negotiated at several counters for an "iPod". Found a white and a black one with the "iPod" logo on it. Picked up the white "iPod" with USB cable, earphones, and external charger for 1800bt. Guy let me test the "iPod" right there at his shop to insure that it actually worked before buying it.
Looked a lot like the iPod Nano (there was one locked up in the case to compare against), but not identical.
Got back and gave the nephew the "iPod". 2 days later he called to gush his thanks. Today I received an e-mail from him that he and his friends love the "iPod", and that I was the best Uncle around.

Do note that there is a new iPod nano out, also available in several colors. These are made of aluminium, yet flat and thin as the prior nano.
You may use this to negotiate a better price on the older versions.
I looked at a lot of the rip off iPod-clones, and they are all crap.

FM - there are LOTS of different models of iPods out by Apple. More than 20 of them. Ain't no way any of his friends can afford one, let alone be able to tell that his isn't a real iPod.
His parents know, and are able to deflect any questions that might come up. So, don't worry your pointy little head wondering.
DD - I tend to agree with you, but I also think the real iPods are crap at their price point, DRM support, and music download options.
Besides, most likely he will lose it within a month.
He, like many TGs, loves this "handsome man".

Shuffle (1gb) - $70
iPod nano (2gb) - $150
iPod (30gb) - $249
At this rate, the iPod provides you with the best gb/$ ratio (invariably less than competing name-brands), and regarding the old, and inaccurate DRM argument, I would reading a label:
The iPod supports the most audio formats of any player out there: Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV. Of those, *only* Protected AAC is covered by DRM, and that's only for downloads from the iTunes Store (Duh!).
By comparison, generic players, or Windows player only support a fraction of these formats, and the Windows DRM protected WAV format (PlaysForSure).
So, in terms of playable formats, the iPod plays pretty mcuh everything under the sun, including any music you rip from your CDs, that you download from non-protected services (www.allofmp3.com comes to mind). Windows stores won't play on the iPod and iTunes store stuff won't play on other MP3 players, so there's no difference.
In terms of flash players, iPod flash players are less epxensive, or same price than competing flash players - and iPod hard drive players are cheaper than competing hard drive players.
The only place where competing, super-low-end cheap players win on price is below 512mb of storage, and those are invariably crap anyways.
So, please don't use inaccurate, or incorrect information to justify your purchases. The reason that he will lose it quickly is good enough, though kids invariably don't lose real products that they love, and kids LOVE their iPods (the real kind).
Also, the cheapest place to find fake iPod clones is in mainland China. I'm sure FM could corroborate that. The ones in Thailand get imported from China.
