Sad that night bazaar will close. Cant understand it really - since it gives people working there an income and is also a good place to visit for tourists! GF and I often go there and she actually found some really nice unusual clothes at very good prices. Personally I much rather shop there than the upscale expensive malls.

Any update on when it will close and whether/where it will reopen?
It is far too good on too many levels to just fade into the plain vanilla/upscale prices of New Bangkok's restricted entertainment, look-alike shopping malls & mass-produced condos for the masses.

I'm back in October and wanted to spend a few hours at night shopping, eating and drinking there.
Is there an alternate place similar to the night bazzar ?

Last I heard, officially it is closing, but getting it to close is taking the owners of the land a long time. My limited experience of this sort of thing here in Bangkok is that you wait in dread for an imminent closing, then you think maybe it won't, and then, just as you decide that it is never going to close,
it does, suddenly, and with no warning.
(others may be more clued in than I with the ins and outs though!)

Business has been very slow there recently
Many shops are closed; more every week
BTW prices at Suan Lum Night Bazaar are much higher than Chatuchak, not interesting anymore. It was at the beginning.
I have no info but my bet is that it will close... "soon" lol

I was there a few weeks ago and noticed it was a lot slower than my previous visits but then I usually am there during high season. I usually by my CD's and DVD's there because I don't like going to panthip because of the traffic and they have same pricing and selection.
They have been talking about closing for a year but it should still be open when you get there. I don't know of another night market like Suan Lum.
