I can never understand why someone would want a fake Rolex.
A wise man once said that "people who wear silk shirts or Rolex watches never get a raise from their boss because it is obvious they don't need one."
Aside from that, it just increases the likelihood of getting mugged.

For me it would be because I liked the look of it and wanted it - but felt the price for the genuine one was not worth it ($8000 for a watch !!! WTF!!!)
Same applies for most "fakes" I buy, sun glasses, clothing, DVDs etc...

Over the years I have wandered through a lot of the street vendors looking at fake Rolex. If there are any really good fakes I have yet to find them. Some fair ones I have found for giving out as gifts to family. They were good for what I paid for them, but as for the really good fakes no luck on my part.
Of course you will always read the post about a friend of a friend got one and he told me; but I have never followed down any such information to find more than the average poor fake Rolex.
I will agree a good fake is still going to be expensive compared to the average watch but should be less than the original.

For the 800-1200 Baht being paid for them, they are decent quality - in fact, most of the ones I bought still work. I found the TAG/Heuer watches to be usually higher quality.

About 6 years ago, I was in Beijing. I bought some "Fake" watches for friends and gave them out as gifts. One was left over and I put it in the bottom of my sock drawer. Last month I was cleaning out the drawer and found the watch. Not only was it still working; but it was off by only 2-3 minutes. can't say the same for the expensive watch I now wear.

Well said I heard that this apply on gold flashy "bliing bling" 1 kilo gold chain e.t.c. if you wear simple maybe a bit scruffy clothes and don't flash money around too much you reduce the risk of being mugged a bit.

Grade A fakes (yes that is how they call them in LOS) are usually not among those openly displayed. You have to ask, and better if you somehow know who is selling it to you, or you could be ripped off.
I know a guy that paid THB 4.000 for his Panerai Grade A watch (I bought it for him) ; upon receiving the watch, he said that the leather strap was the one thing that gave it away (of course not the same leather quality as the original), so he went to a Panerai dealer and got himself the original strap which cost him more than US$ 1,000. Now he had a fake watch costing US$ 100 on an original expensive US$ 1,0000 strap. It helps him that given his fortune and status, nobody among his friends thinks he would be wearing a fake.
