On my last trip to BKK I have bought a portable DVD player at MBK. It was the smartest investment which I have done for a long time.
It has served me very well even when I was buying new DVDs at PP and Suk!

Hey guys, I just bought LotR: 2 Towers and Xmen2 yesterday on Suk and I couldn't believe how excellent the quality is on both. These definitely aren't cam corder copies. They both look like screener copies, only without that message that moves across the screen every half hour or so. I've never had a problem so far with any of the DVD's I've bought here in LOS. After I leave this internet shop I'm heading to MBK to do more DVD shopping and I'm taking my portable player with the built in monitor with me. I'll let you know how badly they've been hit by the crackdown, if at all. Peace

Is The Matrix reloaded out on DVD their yet?
The reason I ask is I was curious as to how fast they come out on the street vs in the theatre.

DVDs and PC programs are pretty high on the ToDo list for my next trip . I was also astonished about the rather high quality of most pirated DVDs, they must have been ripped from a master. None of these DVDs had a specific region code, so you can even use them on DVD players with hard-wired region.
But beware, there is also some low-quality stuff out there, like the "Red Dragon" DVD that I've seen in Feb. Fortunately the vendors in PP are pretty open about this and will tell you which DVDs are good and which not.
The LotR2 DVD was almost at the same time available as the movie, so I'm pretty optimistic to pick up a Matrix Reloaded DVD soon.

I bought (I think) 4 DVDs last time I was in BKK and only one worked on my Sony DVD player. All worked on my computer, however. I never tried going to Radio Shack to fix them. I believe I paid around 200 baht each.

One thing we were told about buying DVD's is not to buy movies that have just been released to movie theatres but to wait till the video's and (original) DVD's have been released.
Reasoning behind this is if you go for the DVD as the movie goes to theatre you will most likely be getting the VCD type copy with dubious quality.
Where as if you wait a little longer you can get copies burnt str8 from a video or (original)DVD and much better quality copies.
