JackRabbit present...

I bought 1 baht chain+"coin" pendant in Yaowarat and used it about 9 months.

After that I found there was a red rash around my neck and going down my chest where was a round red circle under the pendant.

I guess that I was unlucky and had "Dirty Gold"but person I sold the chain had no problems, so I guess it's me having a problem ?

P.S:But bringing gold to Europe is profitable, especially when You do deals beforehand.

To back up what the bros have said, the Thais chinese etc like pure gold, or close to it, as the resale is higher than for alloyed golds.  Some of the pawnshops caan have good value, but most are very close to street value.
For my two bahyt worth - I have bought gold, gems and jewelry in LOS, but not for resale - I got very good value and had earings and rings made as presents, and also an eternity ring for my wife.

When I got them vaalued for insurance they were worth over twice what i paid for them, but if I went to resell them - I reckon maybe I would not come close to breaking even.

I think you really gotta know what you're at to make money importing stones and gold.

Just curious where to find best deals / bargaining or (really current spot market gold prices plus artist mark up) for Thai baht gold chains etc. Went to several on Suk area and finally found fair deals in small off street shop with limited choices.
Is China Town really that good ? ?
1 baht chain = 7500 baht or $180 US which 1/2 oz is $350/2  currently so so deals.
Thai gold does have some great gold lusture but bad bendable wire clasping that need lobster clamp.

Thanks for the spoken word

Never bought gold in Bangkok, only been there 3 times. But I have bought a considerable amount in Hong Kong, probably around US$50K. My only advice is to find out the name of the largest chain of gold stores & buy there. They will be reputable. Only buy 24k, .999 pure. Why waste your $ on anything else, if you want gold, that is? It wears fine, some earlier post said it didn't stand up to wear & tear. Only problem with rings is that they will get bent out of shape after a while, need to put them on a tapered wooden rod to pound them back to round. And I would suggest a "claw"clasp for necklaces. The "S"loop isn't reliable.

The standard for "Thai" gold is 96.5% purity which approximates 23 karats. It's soft and a little delicate, but still stronger than "pure" 24K.

Thai gold can be resold in farangland for a profit, but only for the same reason anything can, a lower cost of labor. It's the design and execution that make money. The gold is worth what the gold is worth, same every where according to market price and you will always get screwed at retail.
