On my last trip,July / Aug I went up to MBK bought a second hand Nokia 2510,like new, with six month warranty 1200 bht plus a new number and 1200 bht credit with 1-2 call.
i thought it was a good deal,phone is little big but I know where it is due too its size and being able to read the numbers.
Go to MBK plenty of phones around I think it was on the 4 floor that I found them.

My Gf told me today of a special promotion 1-2-call are doing at the moment. Basically you register a "buddy" number and get calls at the rate of 3bht per minute until 2005. Seems like a good deal to me especially given UK mobile to mobile prices, nad I think saves about 2bht per minute on mormal 1-2-call prices.
For any of you making the bulk of your calls to one number this is worth checking out. Although the website seems to be in thai script, only.

Do a cell phone and SIM card purchased in BKK work in other Asian cities, like Hong Kong or Singapore? Or do you need a new SIM card but can use the same phone?
I really don't want to mess with my US cell phone (or give out my US cell number) and would rather buy a used one in BKK.

IIRC my 1-2-call card seemed to roam when I switched on my cell in Singapore and Malaysia. Just didn't use it because of fear of what the charges would be.

You need to call 1-2-call Call center if you want to roam. They can enable that feature of your account and set you up. However, receiving a call while roaming in the U.S. is about 120 baht/minute. You can RECEIVE SMS messages while roaming in the U.S., but you cannot send them.

I do not know anything about 1-2-call and Singapore. I am not charged for receiving SMS msgs while I am roaming in the U.S. Remember, you cannot send SMS from 1-2-call while roaming.

Handful of booths at airport, on your left just as you leave the arrival lounge at terminal 2.
DTAC, Orange and AIS. Settled on Orange because I like this colour.
They were all out of cards, so wheeled trolley over to 7-11 in terminal 1. Got Orange SIM for 400 B. Fired it up in the cab and set up a meeting with the regular missus on the way to the hotel. Painless.

Another very helpful device available in bkk is dual simcard backs for some phones... mine is nokia 8310.... so I can run my Oz sim for roaming plus local thai sim card, or if in singapore use a local card there. Flick of a switch can go from one sim to the other.
Cant remember how much I paid bought it about a year ago in pantip I think.

Just bought a new, un-locked Nokia 3200 at MBK last Sunday afternoon. They are currently having a small price war so you can actually win w/o having a Tai negotiator on-hand.
DrLove was on target with his recommendation to select 1-2-call (AIS) as the providor.
I negotiated on the phone and the baht recharge cards and ended up buying the entire package from LEECHENG Mobile Company - MBK 4th floor.
The service was excellent, the negotiation handled well, and they set-up all the phone features and had it on-line in 20 minutes.
The clincher was falling in love with the salesgirl!!!
