Right, in fact a lot of stuff sold in Thailand is made in China. I have noticed a real swing in products towards China imports, even for clothes in Thailand that proves to me that the trade deals signed by Thaksin were preverential to the Chinese.
Try to find Thai products in China as a consumer.

In Shanghai the electronics market is getting to be world competative. Now I am not going to do a pile of price research, but here iPod copies do not sell well.
Why? Well two reasons. First, there is a great deal of pressure for IPR clampdown and second since the price of real iPods is low if you still cannot afford it, consumers will buy another qualilty band or an upmarket chinese brand for even better prices (means cheaper) than the iPod repros.
Don't forget iPods are a fashion item too. Wear a fake one in Shanghai? Are you kidding! Maybe, if you just arrived from the boonies.
Other smaller city centers in China, depends again on the social status your friends accept.
The other day due to the IPR clampdown all 10 DVD stores in my area were shuttered. The press says they are winning the fake DVD battle however, I wonder how all the stores in my area knew how to close at the same time thus avoiding the inspection teams yet again.
Me? Well Tom Cruise hasn't received a nickle from me in years. The day he calls me to complain, I might stop buying the illegals. Not to mention my sweetie would dump me.
Price for DVD's in Shanghai? 25 Baht! I was told by one dealer his cost was 5 Baht.
If you can get the stuff through Thai customs on the way back, Shanghai is a good place to shop for electronics etc.
And yes getting laid is easy too.

Thge IMPORTANT things here are,,,
1) you got a nice gift for your Nephew
2) He is happy.
3,4,5,6 don't count as Numbers 1 and 2 are all that is important on this purchase.

Looking around at the weekend in so called high end places (eg Paragon, Emporium and the official shop in Discovery), the prices for real iPod nano's appear about the same.
Black ones are Bt10,500 or so. Ahd yes there is a difference between black and the other colors. BLack nano's have 8gb and the others (white, blue, green etc) are 4gb.
Apple does seem to like to charge more for black. They did with their mac a few years ago.
The official apple web site store has black nano's at $249 so that should be around bt9,200 using 37 to the buck.

really??.that makes them cheaper here then as they are less than 8,000THB in Panthip / IT Mall (in the right stores that is)
I checked the Emporium Price for the 60GB video and it was over 15,000THB whereas I paid 12,840THB for mine.

Not necessarily. Once I buy something I never look at the price again. What's the point especially with electronics when they will always go down or a new model will come out.
My TGF could care less about the cost she was only happy that she had gotten a Pink 4G Nano before it was or is available in Thailand.
BTW I paid $199.00 USD in the best place to shop for electronics the USA.

Daffy,, wasn't Japan the same way 35 years ago,, cheap copies, bad quality ? Now Jap cars and many others products are first rate but no longer extremely cheap.
Times change, quality controls etc moove forward. That always leads to higher wages and then,, the next country begins, probably India next.
It's a cycle.
Similiar to P4P, LOS is beginning to outprice itself so a cheaper but not as "specified" product becomes available,, they moove forward and become the next LOS.
