If you buy a Rolex and it looses 30% of its value, you have lost a few thousand dollars (at least).
If you buy a Seiko, you will always know exactly what time it is for at least 10 years, and even if you loose it, you are out about $250. Plus no one is likely to mug you (or worse) to steal your watch.
If I found a really good fake Rolex that was hard to tell from a real one, I would be afraid of being mugged or just being charged inflated prices for everything. I think it pays to be "low-profile" in most circumstances (as long as you don't look like a bum).
As John Malloy said in his book "Dress for Success": People who wear silk shirts have a hard time convincing their boss they need a raise.

What's the deal with pricey watches anyway? If you want to invest in something call your broker. Is it a face thing?
I wear a Swiss Army watch that I got in a Marlboro cigarette promotion about 10 years ago. (remember Marlboro Miles?) It's not very flash and it loses 2 minutes a month but so what? I'm not using it to launch rockets to the moon or dive to Atlantis and nobody will stick a shiv in me to get it.

Last time when I was in BKK I have discovered this new shop in The Family Plaza at Silom Road Soi 32, Opposite Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Bangkok. this guys name is SAK and generally deals only in Bags of all types. In the shop you wont see any watches on display. You go to him and tell him that you have been sent by TONY the TUK-TUK guy, and want to see AA QUALITY Rolexes. Then he would start opening boxes that are hidden in his shop. This guy even says that the gives gurantee of his watches and he remembers the watches that are sold by him. Me and my friends got a very good deal from this guy (cauz we bought 9 watches 3 each). He bargains hard but he wont let you go. I think that he supplies watches to the shops in MBK and World Trade Centre. But insist ONLY ON AA Quality and also tell him to give you his business card and he should sign on it so next time he remembers. He also has a very good range of watches (mostly male watches) and the finishing is very good. I think that they were from Japan and not those cheap fakes from tiawan.
Go check it out and do let me know what you discover.
