Pratunam Centre is good, same quality as MBK, maybe I'm lucky as the guy in MBK always tells me if master copy or 90%. If I am not happy I just take them back

Quote: from DaffyDuck on 12:54 am on Jan. 22, 2007 I don't see how they can fit an entire season on a DVD-9. Caveat emptor.
Buy 'em all the time. What the 'true' designation is, f*** if I know. Just reading what's printed on the package. Girlfriend just bought first two seasons of Desparate Housewives - each season on one disc. Nothing wrong with it. Don't think the quality is HHdvd cause my TV isn't. The point is at the price, who cares?

To my understanding, you must have one of the new DVD machines (like the blueray) to play the true HD-DVD. I think they may have converted and compressed the files into a VCD format then merged them onto a single DVD. You can compress a single 1 hour episode (about 40 minutes in real video) down to <400 megs if you skimp on the audio and video quality some. You can get a lot of shows on a single dvd with that. It might not be top quality but most of us are use to that when it comes to these bootleg DVDs.

Yes, they compress them. I've seen upto 8 complete movies on these DVD9s (which btw have nothing to do with HD-Discs). At 250-300 baht each it's a rather nice deal....

Curious, what's the current pricing in Panthip for DVDs? Is it 100 B? On Sukhumvit, it's going for 100 B (sometimes, 150 B for foreigners). I hear, that in On Nut, you could get them for about 70-80 B.

MBK - 100 Baht Buy 5 get 1 free Pantip - 100 baht Buy 5 get 1 free Pratunam Centre - 100 baht Buy 10 get 1 free (Not sure) Patpong - 100 baht If you buy a complete series you can bargain eg 6 discs for 500 baht etc. Pattaya - Tried to charge 220 baht to one of my tour members, got it for 100 baht. Those walking around with DVDs might sell them for 80 baht. I remember that at Bo Bae market they sold them for around 80 baht. I seldom buy DVDs. If I like to see a movie I rather pay 120 baht and see it in the cinema. Most movies are not worth to see multiple times.... If I buy DVDs they are the concert ones, you enjoy them several times.

To add to this, Jakarta they run about 8,000 Rups to 10,000 for a DVD copy ($1.00 USD = approx 9,000 Rup). Manila 40-50 Pesos ($1 USD = approx 49 Pesos) for a DVD copy. Many of the DVD players in China now play DivX & Avi files so you can get 1 Hour shows down to 350Mb for good quality. Put them on a DVD-9 (close to 8Gb of space) means you get 22 Episodes of your favourite 1 Hour show (which in reality is only about 45 minutes).
