Quote: from atl on 6:58 am on Mar. 2, 2011 Do any dudes here have a recommendation for a "top notch" tailor on/near sukhumvit????
... when I was wearing suits, I had them all tailored at Rajawongse Tailors in Bangkok... Jessie and son Victor Rajawongse... long-time icons of the rags trade here... impressive guys, both of them. ... located on Sukhumvit between Soi 4 and the Nana BTS Station, on the same side of Sukhumvit as The Landmark Hotel, about 3-4 shophouses down from The Landmark, walking toward Soi 4... not to be confused with another Rajawongse somewhere close-by. ... you might stop into a few shops to check out the fabrics... this would be one to visit... all English and Italian fabrics... while there, go to the back of the store and check-out the photos of these guys with US Presidents, and other luminaries, for whom they've cut suits... heads of state, ministers, secretaries, top law enforcement heads (FBI, AUS Secret Service, DEA, etc.), ambassadors, generals and admirals, captains of industry... it's an imposing wall of cards and photos. ... you might find impressive their very low-key, but very effective salesmanship... the polar opposite of the guerilla tactics of the attack tailors ambushing farang on the streets... go by, have a cold beer and let them work their magic... buy nothing, mai pen rai... their effect will persist long after you depart, and bring you back in another time... they are patient... and, I swear to you they have photographic memories for faces and names. ... the last suits I had cut there were about US$325, or 350, and that was in about 2001-02... credit cards not accepted... priced and paid for in US$... they throw in a handful of so-so ties, or a shirt, deliver to my home, embroider my name inside the jacket, all the little service niceties that distinguish them... and, of course there is the ice cold (and, I mean cold) beer they serve-up while you are browsing about. ... their level of customer service is extraordinary, by Thai standards, maybe any standards... if Rajawongse has a fabric you like, you would do well there... I've sent scores of friends and visitors their way over the last decade, none of whom have been disappointed. ... some buddies still have suits cut and mailed to them by these guys, the fabrics selected from swatches Rajawongse mails to them... once they have your final fitting, they can nail it again as long as you've not bloated, developed humpback, or lost a leg, or something. http://www.dress-for-success.com/ ... this cracked me up... amongst all the temples, attractions and spas and such, Rajawongse shows up as #3 by popularity out of 230 places to see in Bangkok by Trip Advisor.. a tailor!... that's hilarious! http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293916-d510303-Reviews-Rajawongse_Clothier-Bangkok.html

Mags, When living in BKK I had 2 buddy's visit from the states, in '03 or '04, and I think this was the place they had suits made. I remember browsing around seeing a picture of the owner and Dubya. My friend said, "if it's good enough for the president, then it's good enough for me!" I never saw the final product but will email one of them and ask how they turned out! RTB, I had some shirts made from the guy up the soi from TL and they turned out pretty nice. But, I will swing by majestic tailors, and Taj Mahal (KB's recommendation) as well. Cheers atl

As tailors go Jessy and Victor are very good salesmen. Suits are ok, fair for the price. But certainly not top notch. For better stuff, better fabrics better workmanship (and higher prices) I refer Narin on Suk around Soi 8

L6, 55! Ok, Narin is on the list now as well My occupation entails hobnobbing all the time and I have 5 suits, but only one (a gift from my dad, is "top notch" - Hugo Boss) and makes me feel like "BAM!" whenever I sport it. I want to get one this time that solicites compliments every time I wear it If Narin is really that higher tier and 1 or 200 bucks more then whatever cheers, atl

from what you say, you want Narin. He is worth the extra cost. I reached a point I would rather have 1 suit/sport jacket etc from Narin than 3 from Rajonwingse. Raj...is good at what they do, but Narin is another league. let me know what you think after you go

Alright guys, Cheers for all the recommendations and I ended up going by Narin and that dude comes across as a stud of his trade! He was dressed impeccably, and I got the impression you would NEVER find him outside his shop soliciting a passerby I picked out a blend fabric and told him what I was looking for and without grabbing the calculator he quoted me a price. Now I was prepared for 4 maybe 6 thousand baht more than I had budgeted but was taken aback with the quote.... I said very kindly, "that is a bit more than I had in mind but you come highly referred so let me think about it, as I just arrived and you are the first person I have seen!" He said, "Very well then, thank you for coming in and here is my card if I can be of service!" No trying to close the deal on the spot, which was also very smooth I thought! The man is not only stylish but uber professional So I dropped by Majestic and spoke with Kevin and picked out a blend that was very close in quality to Narin and I actually liked the dark blue pin stripe pattern more. He was busy with a customer but quoted me a ballpark for a 3 piece suit and it sounded much more in my budget and I just said I would come back, as he would be about 15 more minutes. I went back today and kevin wasn't in and spoke with Mr. Singh and pulled the blend fabric and walked him thru 3 button jacket, waist coat, pants no pleats or cuffs yada yada yada and he made a couple of suggestions and pulled out the calculator and the total was spot on with my budget and so I got fitted. However, since I prepared to spend more anyway I picked out fabric for 2 sweet shirts Just by personal judgement, Narin's final product is probably higher quality but it was essentially $1000 bucks for the suit and I paid $490 for the suit and 2 shirts and really like the fabric's and feel comfortable with the purchase I am not a cheap charlie but the difference between $200 more and $500 more was a tough pill to swallow, as that $300 can be used on other activities I will post about the quality of Majestics final product when it is done!!!! Cheers again and BK this is a precise reason BTF provides a useful forum, as I didn't have to deal with all the f***ers speaking in Australian or British accents to me in hopes they get my nationality correct atl
