This is a bit of a long shot, but I am after a set of DVD's made by the great Indian film director Satyajit Ray.
They are the famous Apu Trilogy.
I just wondered if
a) anyone had come across any fake copies of this in Bangkok
) If anyone had seen the original box set as shown above? and what it cost.
I've never seen them on DVD in places such as Panthip, Seacon or Fortune, but they haven't been out on DVD for long.
Maybe some of the guys know a decent DVD shop catering for the Indian market...Arramsey?
If you see it....let me know....Don't want to pay so much for it unless I have to.

Yurune, Petal, it's been a while.
And since you did once try to help me out on dvds (not much, but still...), here's a tip.
I went through the catalogs of that shop in MBK on my last trip but while I didnt see any of Ray's stuff, there were a couple of arthouse indian titles such as 'salaam bombay' and 'terrorist'. The label that put out these titles is called Tartan Video. If anyone has these it would be them. I believe its a british label.
On the other hand, there is a video shop in singapore called D&O video on the 2nd level of Tanglin Shopping Centre run by a cranky guy called Mr. O'dell. I've seen this Satyajit Ray trilogy there...I believe it's called 'Pather Panchali'. But he only has it on VHS PAL. He might want to sell it.
Perhaps you should ask your buddy Oz to check out that option, or else the poor sod is going to be trekking up and down Little India without any success.

Only interested in DVD.

I salute your tase in Movies! You have picked the best of Ray and wortyh its weight in any collection good cinema.
It was available a while ago in Dubai. Though the price was closer to what was advertised in your url link. I don't know if you want it at the price. If yes, please let me know I will find out if its available.

Thanks for the offer, I can buy it at that price easily in the UK, it's just after the prices I've been paying in Bangkok, I find full prices staggering....
If someone had seen it in BKK I would wait until I returned to buy it.
I got Salaam Bombay the other day to cheer myself up, but the Apu Trilogy will make my year, I love the films, just stunning work.

I'm actually very interested in Indian film and also Chinese film.
My favourite film of all time iid 'Farewell My Concubine', loved the king Of Masks, Satyajit Ray etc.....
As far as Indian film can you recommend any other fils that I should look out for. Today I picked up a copy of 'Mother India', looked like a stunning B&W film from the pics on the box, but I've tested it and see it is colour, it does look interesting however...very..."Colour by Cinemascope"...LOL
I do not like Bollywood musicals, as you can probably guess by the interest in Calcutta / Pay movies.
Any recommendations?
