I have noticed that in many shops in the shopping malls and centers there were only few or nearly no customers. (In some shops however there are always plenty of customers). Same picture in the morning, in the afternoon and during weekends.
Yet the shopping centers are very nicely build and maintained. Friendly guards at the entrance and at each floor, many stuff members in the shops to serve the potential customer. All this must cost a lot of money.
But with no or only few customers, who pays for it and how can these shops survive?

they survive as any other shops. with sales. some survive 3 months (turnover equals profit), others do good business.
why would it be diferent here then in other countries??

A good percentage of shops survive as money laundrys or to lose money for a parent organization and take tax write-offs.

Many shops that are streetside don't need to do much business as they often double as homes (upstairs). These places are likely already paid for in full as well. So if you can cover the water and electric bill, you're in not going to be in the red for this month.
As for mall shops, well,.... many don't last long. It's the same everywhere on the planet. Some businesses make it. Most new businesses do not.

At least people are trying to make a living. Some will succeed where others fail.
Prefer that people try, do think about my 'home' country and the amount of non workers in the society. And they are treated well, buys them a great living comparing to the welfare standards in Thailand.
