Safest time to get in there is about 10:30 - 11:00 AM
Some shops close by about 6:00 - 6:30 PM
This place is open daily, but not all shops are.

You can go anytime you want before 18:30. Depending on what you are looking for (hardwares, softwares,..) Sunday may not be the right day.
As for softwares availability, it will depend on police raids. Alternatively, check out MBK (very little choice), Future (on Ratchada), Future Park Rangsit or Zeer (quite far but large choice, in Rangsit also).

PL69: ÝPanthip (also spelled Pantip) Plaza is on Petchburi Road in the Pratunam district. ÝTry this map:
Siam/Ratchadamri map. ÝIt's near the Amari Watergate hotel, but you should be able to get a cab to take you there.
I will be in Thailand about the sametime as you and will want to make a trip there, if you are interested in partnering up one day.

Not all the hi-tech gear, but certainly cheaper for DVDs, video games etc, try "KLONG TOM" or the thieves market, supposedly much of the stuff on sale has come over the border escaping taxes. In the "yahworat" area, I find the easiest way is to tell the Cabbie, "Merry King"- dept. store, "Whang Burapha" - Think the Aircon #8 from Sukhumvit also goes there, anyway walk directly across the road from the Merry King depart. store, the market is undergound, beside the canal. Open daily 10-6pm ish.

Thieves Market is good but not easy when you don't know the city. Everything can be found in Pantip, hardware and software. All softwares are there. Can have a look at MBK, floor 4. Still have some shops there. There is also Fortune Tower on Ratchada Road. Maximum price is 150b. for one CD.

About VCDs and DVDs, they can be found at the same places. A lot of choices but be careful about quality level. Most of the newest movies can be found but they are videotaped in the theater (Spiderman for ex.). So, quality and sound is shit. Personaly, i never buy copies of DVDs, since I am looking for the best quality when buying a DVD player. The copy discs must be cleaned also very often.
Check out the Manpong shops. They sell some original DVDs for less than 400b. (Art of War, Rules of Engagement, Rush Hour2, ...)
