I would ask the receptionsist to help you. Often times they will get it for you and just add it to your room bill. I find it easier to have someone else do my work for me.

Check out of Majestic and into Admiral Suites Soi 22, they have players and music centers in every room. I buy CDs every trip, great bonking away with good music in the background.

Now let's get to reality:
There aren't any video stores who rent out DVD players. You're lucky to find one decent shop where you can rent DVD movies (Blockbuster is one).
There just to be a shop renting out audio visual equipment (TV, videos etc). It's called Silver Bell and it's in a plaza behind Patpong 1 (Suriwongse). Look in The Nation or Bangkok Post and see I you see their ad. Prices for short time are probably not worth it.
DVD Player for under 2, 500 baht. Marco must be dreaming, and if he really saw one then let us know and I will apologize publicly. Even if you can get one for such a low price, it probably won't 'eat' the Pantip Plaza ones. Orginal DVD rentals... see above. What Marco probably meant was a VCD/MP3 player. But does he know the difference?

I actually got a good VCD/JPG player for 999bht a couple months ago. Can't beat that with a stick.
DVD player for 2, 500bht? I'll take some of that action, if it's true!

If you're happy with VHS standard, why not just get a VCD player. Prices start at 900 baht and VCDs will also play on a DVD player if you wish. VCDs are half the price of DVDs usually. Lots of titles to rent at chains like MangPong which have about 50 stores across Bangkok. Membership card costs 100baht, 5 weekly rentals for 120 baht, good range of English soundtrack movies with Thai sub-titles. Works for me.

I bought one for a friend in Carrefour 1 month ago for 2499 bahts. Don't know if it still in stock but they certainly have others at the same price.
The model I bought is listed on bestbuy.com at 36.99$ = 1500bhts so I got ripped off ! My friend says it works fine, can play Mp3s...etc.
You do a quick search and you will find plenty of DVD players in the $50-$70 range.
