After my positive experience in getting shirts made on my last trip, I wanted to see if I can get shoes (the dress type) made on my nxt trip. While tailors and dress-makers seem to abound in Bangkok, I have been hard-pressed to find shoe makers during my last few trips. Any tips and recommendations on where to go, and what prices can be expected, quality, etc...? Harry P.S. I know about this thread, http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=16&topic=68&start=10, but was wondering about more up to date information. Just looking for shoes, not boots.

Yes, I got a pair made just for me on Soi 3. There are two leather/shoe shops on right side as you walk up from Suk/Soi 3/4 intersection toward the Arab area. The 2nd one up made some nice boat shoes for me in exact size and color. 3000B, took 2 days. I will go back when need to again.

If you go to Khao San Road and have the skill and dexterity to weave your way through the tourists, market sellers and back-packers, make your way to the end of the road and turn left. Cross the road and on that side, there was a shoe shop that made tailor made shoes and boots. You either pick the leather quality that you want or bring your own if you've managed to purchase some snake-skin or hide from somewhere else. ( It lessens the cost.) The cost was usually about between 2,000 and 3,000 baht. A skiled craftsman who ensured that his product fitted extremely well..and very comfortable too. Top notch. It's been around for a long time. I hope to go there soon to see if he is still open.

Yes, also Liu's on even side of Suk near Asoke. They quoted me a 5000THB price for a 2900 THB shoe for full custom. I think they can be talked down a bit but not much. Fair business people running it I think. Good selection.... a bit better than the shops on Soi 3.
