last time I was in BKK I paid like 200baht for most hawaiian shirts, about 200 baht for shorts with zip pockets etc.. and I was quoted about 120-200 on tshirts. but then I banged this Tg from nana and she said she use to sell clothes before she became a working girl and said I was ripped off!
I should only pay 60baht for tshirts, and no more than 100 baht for other items..which I bought..
so what are rates?
and also.. wheres the best place to buy stuff?
MBK? or from the street vendors?
suk, pong, kao, where??

Now we have found out what the prices on T-shirts and stuff are, and then I wonder: what is the prices on shirts (long arm) and trousers and suit coat of good quality.

Last time I was in Bangkok I bought: 2 Jackets, 4 trousers and 6 shirts and paid 12 000 Baht, guess I was "ripped" in thai procelevel.

Anyone got tips?

12000THB.... that was custom no doubt.
And probably purchased around Suk.
You can get prices cut in half buying custom around Pratunam.
And the 200B/shirt is a very standard price in the farang areas including JJ market.
Thais can buy for 100B or less in the Thai markets that farangs do not frequent.
Similar price differentials are true for food, sex, cars, etc.

Yes offcourse it was custom made, very nice material and looks on the clothes. And I will buy more from there if it is an ok price! I dont need to find the cheapest place in bkk. Since I have a steady gf in bkk that is denying to give her money I have a few baht to buy clothes for.

No matter what you pay for anything in Thailand, there will always be a bar girl telling you 'oi, too mut spenship, I pay just only xxx baht'.
Then stand by and watch as a streetside vendor sells her a 300 baht watch for 600 baht.
The guy that makes my suits comes to my apartment with samples and a tape measure. I give him a deposit and he returns a few days later for a fitting. His prices are reasonable and offers good advise. Much better than visiting the Indian shops and having these sharks circle you, peddling crap material at inflated prices.

i was recomended mr a song near oriental hotel and was very pleased with quality. 7000 for suit. I was advised to avoid the special offers eg suit 2 trousers 3 shirts, 4 ties etc. quality poor. you should have at least 2 fittings as well.

I am not really looking to save a 50baht etc..
I mean I dont care if I pay a few baht extra as long as there is a large variety of stuff available..
I have been to MBK and the prices were only a few bht more than nana, or kaosan.. so to be able to walk around an airconditioned department store VS kao san but have to pay 20-100bht more so be it..
but I didnt actually look so closely in MBk lasttime.
I just saw all brand items..
so where is the better place to go for shopping?
kaosan, Baiyoke Tower, suk etc.. or just stay in MBK ?
and do all the shopping for friends and family there?
or is more than a couple bht over priced?

chatuchak market is definitely cheap, but that that much cheaper than mbk and mbk has aircon. chatuchak is an experience the first time you go though. I bought polo shirt @ 120 thb. (buy several and speak only thai, try to act as you know what you are doing.)

MBK or Chatuchack? Not me!! Better to go to the Bobe (also spelled Bobae) Market, off of Klong Kasem. They have a 5-story (6-story??) building with hundreds of distributors, manufacturers and retailers of all sorts of ready made clothing. On the other side of the Klong there is a small tent city of retailers and other clothing representatives. Few will sell you 1 of an item, many want you to buy 6 or more of an item, but you can mix colors and styles. A number of the clothing stands you see on touristy areas of Sukhumvit, as well as large clothing retailer stores often buy at Bobae.
