Used the search engine found nothing under Tazers. Now last April in Pattaya I saw a guy on walking street selling the hand held type I clocked him and made a note to get one next time out, of course never saw him again.
I want one or two of these things as I work in a few 3rd world countries where I cant and wont carry a fire arm but I am getting a little too old to muscle my way out of akward situations Tazers seem to be a good solution.
So the questions are where can I get them? Cost and effectiveness? Customs could be a problem as I will be returning through Europe ideas suggestions?

Seen them everywhere up walking street and you can easily ask anyone on the Suk
Bring them back to the UK through (not sure with Europe) and get caught and you will be doing some time

I think You saw Stun Guns, they have two studs in th handle and the jolt will crackle between them.
Tazers ( or Tasers ) shoot two needles with thin wires and can be shot from few meters away, pull the trigger and ZZZZAAAAPPPPP !
Cannot recommended, get a collapsible steel baton instead and get some teaching how to use it. The BASIC self-defense can be taught in weeks, rest is how much You practise with it.

Personally I find all this very unnecessary and overly violent. I for one have NEVER lost a fight, never used a Tazer nor a Stun gun,,,,, trick is "run like the wind". 
Really guys, Thailand is for FUN,, who wants to fight??? I prefer to save my energy for P4P unless say a 150,000BHT prize was at stake.
12 visits (13th coming) and never been in a fight ( in Thailand), smile, pay what you should without being ripped off and enjoy

A- MEN !! Mel said it out and right ; Neither I have not been in a true danger in 16 years travelling there. Besides the writer mentioned work in the 3rd world countries, not LOS.
But bingo 629 made a question and I just threw my two carrots in.
What comes tio "overly violent", I am opposing that.
Violence is a part of this world and all with their senses do not wish to run into it.
Brains are the best weapon to stay clear of that but sometimes violence is random, not provoked by any means.
Then a little non-lethal help can be useful ( especially when user knows what he's doing, as I advised).

Guys, thanks all for the feed back but some of you are missing the point. I am not looking to use these things in Asia. I do work in some shitty parts of Africa and I am old enough and have enough street sense to look after my self. I also spent more than a few years doing a Special type of military job so no stranger to the rigors of life.
Because of this my knee's are f***ed I can’t run away. Disc's are blown in my lower spine I can’t doge and weave. Neck is bending forward (A.S.) so lack of peripheral vision.
Where I have been recently and will be returning to next year most of the time no problem. But road blocks are becoming a problem not official just kids but big kids extorting money. I don’t give. Out for a beer at night the few yards back to the car numerous hits of gangs clubbing internationals for wallets watches etc.
I can negotiate or bluff myself out of most things its part of my job but recently I have had close calls.
Taking all the above into consideration and seen another guy with the hand held zapper not an imitation weapon I think its a good alternative. It’s for the shock value (pun intended). Fighting and batons kick boxing etc if it comes to that its too late my ass would be grass.
I want something firstly to scare if needed then if it all goes pear shaped something to buy a few seconds regain the initiative, get to the vehicle and F.O. I’m not a violent person but I aint going to become a statistic either.

Just sit at any beer bar on 7th or 8th street in Pattaya, especially at night, and you'll be approached to buy one about evry 30 seconds. In August, the smaller one was around 1500 baht. The larger one was 2500 baht (I think).
I told one guy I wouldn't be able to get it through Customs if searched so he showed me how the 2 metal points unscrew and can be hidden in the body of the thing. It then turned into a working flashlight! I don't know if this'll fool any Customs agents though.

I worked there for 4 years so I know what you mean.
You would be better off with a couple of cans of pepper spray as the cheap Tasers sold in Thailand are rubbish, my mate will hold one on his leg and let you zap him for a beer!
The best ones as mentioned above are the ones that fire darts on wire, they are about 6,000 plus 2,000 for spare dart heads, they only fire once then you need to change the head, no good in a serious situ. I only know a place in Hat yai that sells these so no good for you mate, but any good gun shop will sell them.
Get Pepper spray at MBK off the same guys that sell Binoculars, toe nail clippers and compass's

I just remembered, the pepper spray works wonders on those farang who are forever getting their bits out in public too, I witnessed (read instigated) one fella who used to get pissed up and walk around the bar with his gonads out, the bar owner was at a loss as to what to do, so I handed my pepper spray over and he sprayed his balls with it...
Worked a treat!
You can also spray troublesome soi dogs on the nose when they chase after you whilst jogging or cycling, they have good memory retention after that...
