Anyone have any ideas or is it that difficult to find a good used record store in Thailand? Not a CD store, but actual vinyl records.

Gyaos.

They are not used, but CD Warehouse (Emporium, Pattaya, Mall Bangkapi) ) have a collection of vinyl records. Not cheap....

There used to be a shop in mix records in MBK. Enter opposite of the main entrance and go upstairs.

Fortune Town has some shops (not on the IT City side) if you walk around. also have Hi-Fi shops with turntables etc. should be 1 shop (in the back area forgot what floor) in Pantip Plaza, if you can speak to the old lady who sells the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Cds/memorabilia on the 2nd floor near the bathrooms she can tell you the way.

vinyl is not really easy to come by here in BKK, I too love them, but have my sitting up in NYC. as the weather here is pretty bad for storage.

is there a particular record you looking for? genre? etc?

In Fortune Town there's a second-hand shop that sells vinyl records along with just about everything else imaginable. I believe that it's located on the 4th floor mid-way between the Mercur Hotel and the IT Mall.

I FEEL the same way. But do you actually know what would happen to the vinyl if you brought it over here? Would a room that is airconditioned 24/7 be good enough to not harm the records?

I remember the shop at World Trade mentioned above. Thought they closed quite a while ago.

Know of one other place, not far from Rachadamnoen and Sanam Luang, but don't know the address. Will try to find out.

Before CDs there were records in Thailand too. I'm curious, isn't there somewhere that sells the used record lot released in the Kingdom, or have they all melted? If stores like that exist in Canada and the US, etc, then in Thailand too? Are they outside Bangkok?

Yeah, I know about CD Warehouse, but I'm looking for a place that sells only records of popular artists from the 70's and 80's released in Thailand by the majors. A real used record store. None?

I too have a fairly large collection of vinyl... back in the States. I think they'd weigh a ton were I to bring them out here. Shipping, maybe? Don't know.

Yes, Gyaos, there must be vinyl records somewhere... Of course... It's just strange I've never seen them... I guess most Thai people aren't into used record shops: they're too caught up in the "latest" technology to impress their friends and lovers. Must be some eccentrics somewhere though...

Hey Gyaos

From what I have been told, most of the 80s stuff was released on cassette tape and not on vinyl in Thailand.

That's correct! Tapes were the 'thing' in Thailand for a long long time until CDs took over (maybe 8-10 years ago). I must have bought 500+ of them over the years (1984-1994).

Average price for a tape was THB 20...

Only audiophiles got a meager selection of vinyl records in shops where they sold hi end audio equipment.

this might be a longshot. but it works in the US and parts of world.

online auction places. not ebay mind you, I am sure the price for shipping a lot of vinyl to BKK would be either expensive (air) or very slow (surface/sea)

there are Thai Auction sites. actually its really good business, alot deals to be made and had. I am unsure of the actual site names plus being able to read Thai would help immensely. of course buyer beware.

When I have a chance at work, will ask about the sites from some colleagues... or perhaps some of you know the names...
