Hi Bros,

Been a while since I posted. My Thai wife and I will have been married 4 years in June. We live in California and are planning a trip back later this year. The in laws are great (yes really) and don't ever sweat us for money. For which I am thankful.

Anyway I was thinking about buying them a small Ford or Toyota something along those lines with the extended cab. Nothing expensive or over the top. It looks like in the Ford line a new Ranger starts at 450K-500K TBH. I am familiar with the dealership on Sukhumvit but her family is in Kamphaeng Phet. Does anyone know abotu a dealership in Kamphaeng Phet either? I wanted to get this figured out before we go back in June to some extent but don't want to get the family all spun up. In a perfect world I'll fly in buy the thing and drive it home and leave it there.

We aren't rich so a reasonable deal is a good deal. Is possible to get one a year or two old? Also I could just pay cash but I would strongly prefer NOT to. The reason for this is that I currently feel it will be better for all concerned if they can see a monthly cost going out for the thing, not sure. If so I'd just add that to the amount we send home every month to Mom and Dad. They are older and have been really great in laws, certainly not the horror show I was fearing a bit from reading stickman years ago. Just so you know not taking a swipe at Mr. Stick it's just that it made me really careful (a good thing) back in the day before we go married.

Anyway if someone could give me some pointers on how this could work or if it does at all I'd be greateful. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Try this site. They usually have several thousand cars for sale but are mainly in the BKK area.

The site is in Thai but you should be able to browse around with a little experimentation. Should have everything you want but it will be a little hard to finance as a farang.

If you can put it in a Thai's name, then you will have the finance option but not the ownership one. Up to you, as the old saying goes.

Resale value for Fords is usually less than Toyota.

Thanks guys, it's always nice to hear from you all.

It's interesting about financing too...I don't care if it's in a Thai's name I did like the idea of them seeing that I had to make a payment for one vs. me just writing a check and then someone thinking I am a bottomless well (brother in law is my worry). Having a payment that I made by adding it to the monthly stipend is in some cases preferrable for that reason. I wonder is that is even possible, if not no worries I'll just buy it outright and not worry about it.

The links you sent were wonderful by the way.

Thanks again for the excellent help!
