Hi
Where is safe to go shopping right now?
1: MBK?
2:Patpong nightmarket is closed I guess?
3:Siam centers also closed?
4:Pantip plaza?
5:Lumpini park night market?
6:Chatuchak? hate this market but need to know what is still open due to the circumstances.
Are the BTS running as usual or is it also partly closed?
What else is there looking for t-shirts, shorts, toys, electronics,etc
Can anyone advise me whats open and whats not and where its safe to go shopping without risking a granade in the head.

Panthip is definitely okay, I was there just a couple of days ago, though traffic is horrendous. You could try getting on the BTS and getting off at Ratchathewi and then take a 10-15 minute stroll over there, but the heat these days just gets to you. Oh yeah, BTS is operating as usual now.
For electronics, you could also try Fortune center near the Pharam 9 MRT station on Ratchadapisek Road. If you don't mind a long taxi ride, you could also try Seacon Square.

Till yesterday the BTS was going upto National Stadium and yes MBK was open yesterday.

Mall update: Central Chidlom, Central Silom, MBK, Platinum malls are all closed today (May 14th, 2010).

Bangkok is now like a "war zone" with shooting everywhere.... the malls & BTS will be opened again when the fighting die down after a few dozen people are dead..... just be patient..... I expect the dust to settle by the end of May 2010 when I land in Bangkok
