Having lost my favorite sun hat and not being able to replace it before my next trip to LOS was wondering where (if anywhere) one can purchase a jolly good hat in BKK.
Not a base ball cap, not a cheap and tacky Trilby that beach hawkers sell, a decent sun hat that can be worn in nicer places around town.
Sensible suggestions greatly appreciated.

magnum, me too? Impossible to buy anything suitable here; I am working and it is 5.11 or a turban and I dont have access to mail order. a brief respite of R&R hence do not want to spend valuable time shopping when indulgence is in order.
Formal hats are making a comeback so good luck with that.

What do you consider a sun hat? There are many different hat styles that could be considered sun hats.
I have never heard males use the term "sun hat". I have heard females use the term, but not males in reference to a certain style of hat.

... also checked historical searches on Thaivisa and found two searches for panama hats were conducted in 2001 and 2011... neither member succeeded in finding a quality panama-style hat here.
... not encouraging... I'd be thinking of finding something here that is adequate just to get you through the holiday... getting the good stuff here appears unlikely.
... a highly probably source for a temporary fix are the scores of golf shops at Thaniya Plaza (a golf center located at the Saladaeng BTS Station)... tons of accessories, including inexpensive, locally made panama-style hats
... if you are determined to get the good stuff, consider having a buddy who DOES have access to mail order have drop-shipped to your first hotel stop a hat of your choosing... many of online sources of high quality lids... http://www.panamahatmall.com, others.

Quality is out for anything made locally in that style, then anything imported will have the approriate 200% duty for imported luxury items.
Look through the Emporium, it will take you about 30 minutes. If it is available in Thailand one will be there.
I have been taking a client shopping everywhere the last 3 weeks, and have not seen that style hat anywhere, but we have avoided the HiSo shops.
