A year or so ago I had a look around Chatujak Market.
Found a knife allegedly from one of the hill tribes.
Cleverly aged they had missed one point. The blade of an old knife will be worn down from sharpening.
This one was virgin !!!
Most of the time all I found was reproductions !
Anybody know where I can get some real stuff without
paying a fortune. Like those stone heads knocked off in Camdodia! Villains !

check out the river city complex antique shops close to the shangri-la hotel and the area around the oriental hotel. there are a lot of antique shops there. most of them seem to sell genuine antiques and not the prepared ones!

you have to look outside bangkok, there is nothing left to buy for reasonable prices in los, usually I enjoy the posts of griffin, but his advice to check rivercity, I would not recommend to follow. Expensive fakes, thats my summary and I am in this biz, the further north you get, the higher the chance, burmese border...but could involve you in a grey-scale kind of deal

if you want cheap stuff, best is to go upcountry! but i thought hermano was asking about places in bangkok. and these are the only places i could think of in bangkok, fully aware that the prices are higher than the rest of thailand and also a lot of fakes around!

The only antiques you could be lucky to find in this border area are from Myanmar, so better go directly to Myanmar instead. Lots of things at reasonable price but difficult to get them out of the country legally.

Have seen some genuine Khamer antiques at chong jom market, cross the border at prasart district, Surin ... but yes, many fakes, alot of wooden stuff comming out of chiang mai is soaked in acid to age it ....

In Weekend market 15.3 -03 I saw 3 fine Filipino Keris-daggers.
Long versions, metal decorated sheaths, ivory handles;
Looked real thing according my knowledge.
30 000 thb-and up.
If You want good antiques , they very rarely are cheap and if they are , they can be flawed and worth nothing.

A chap down the road with an antiques shop spent 3 months in China and came back disappointed. Another local antiques shop has been selling Chinese antiques believing them as original. All reproductions !
