What's your opinion about the best shopping malls and stores in BKK? Where do you prefer to burn your cash and overload your credit cards?
So far, I've found these places helpful:
Pantip Plaza - It rocks!!
WTC - Best overall mall
MBK - Quite nice
River Center - Nice Thai art (genuine??)
Emporium - A little bit more expensive and up-market
But where can you find find the best tailors? Best shoe makers? I somehow don't quite trust the many touristy tailor shops around Suk., not even Ambassador's - Any other recommendations?

Central and Zen Mall across the street are cool, and cool too. I found Central to have good values, though I still like to slum in the Lotus Land, end of Skytrain, forgot street name.

probably chattuchak market at the end of the sukhumvit line!
tailor wise i do recommend narin between sukhumvit soi 8 and 10. this guy is "not an Indian" but chinese thai and has the best quality material arond i do have seen. also you will get as many fittings as necessary compared to the standard 1 or 2 with the indian guys. this place is a little bit more expensive - suit start at about thb 10k up to 50k - all depending on the material. no cheap stuff like polyster or other blendings only poor wool material. manly italian fabric like cerruti and zegna cloth!

ahhhhhh a shopping-mall question  how nice
I like Siam Discovery Mall, Central Dept Store, MBK and Chatawhateveritis weekend market.
WTC... I like it... but... it's one of those malls that I can't find my way around in and end up walking around in circles.
Shoe-makers and tailors... sorry no help whatsoever from me.

tell me about it KaymanX, I felt like Chevvy Chase in the movie 'National Lampoons European Vacation'.

But, on a brighter note... I did finally find the ice rink in the WTC. Until my last trip I was sure that icerink was just the sick sense of humour of travel book writers.

I can quite understand your predicament, X, having been to WTC umpteen number of times. It's one of my favourite malls actually, I have been there so often, yet I cannot locate the shops I visited the previous time. Instead I keep coming back up and going back down on the same escalator. On my last trip I decided to chart out a brave new path away from the Starbucks coffee shop that I kept coming to after every round, and lo, I discovered a new circle they have made there for people like you and me. I love that place

I love Seacon Square...bit of everything...proper shops, furniture, Tesco...and loadsa smaller stalls the higher up you go...and of course the IT section on the ground floor.
