Is it cheaper to buy these items in the States or in Bkk?

I've found that buying them in U.S is either cheaper or at times the same.
One thing to watch out for is the warrantee. If you buy something in the U.S, you are assured that it will be serviced. The same can not be said about asia in general. If the price for the item you are looking for it so much lower then in the U.S, then you have to wonder.
A buddy bought a camera in HK, only to find out that the casing was real, but all the inside parts were fake. Thus, the camera maker did not repair the camera and he was out the electronic item.
IMO: You really do get what you pay for. So ... if it's too good to be true cheap, then buyer be ware!!
Not to mention bring the item back into the U.S without paying tax on it. That's a smaller inconvenience, but still one to account for. And .. I'm not advocating not paying tax.

....made a little research on this before buying my new NIKON COOLPIX here in Thailand.
I found that the prices in the States are low by 10-20% in most of the models and since I haven't planned to hit America these months I decided to buy it here....Singapore is also a good place to survey. No time to do that.

I almost fell for the same trip while I was buying a camera for a friend in hk. All the places had about the same prices, and all of a sudden, this one place was much cheaper. After the completion of the sale, then they say that the camera was out of stock for the time being, and that I can keep the store credit that I would have paid or purchase this "equally" good camera that the vsame price. Luckily, we hadn't pay yet and left. HK may have the latest electronic gadgets and devices right after Japan, but the prices aren't cheaper.
As for Thailand, listen to advice and opinions already given. The electronic devices I buy in the States on the Internet is always much cheaper than the prices in Thailand. And I have the warranty to cover any problems as well. Thailand and HK is ok when you have to buy accessories for your devices. But buy the main unit from back home.

Hong Kong used to be the place to buy electronics real cheap. I would buy them in the US as already suggested.

guys,
my 2 cents worth. when in BKK i looked around and yes the prices were a bit higher in BKK as compared to Singapore and Malaysia.
even sports stuffs...i feel that Singapore is still the cheapest for sporting goods. electronics...Malaysia can be cheaper than Singapore and you do not have to worry about the insides being fake. the warranty will be honoured.

ahh Fry's. That's where I make my 2nd income at. A place where I buy SCSI III cables from and return to them parallel cables. A place where I buy 100 GB harddrives and return to them 100 MB harddrives. Only in America. I love that place !!!! Surprisingly, there are numberous hot women working in every Fry's that I've been to.

US is cheaper. but if you are flying thru narita or Osaka, you may want to look at the stores in the airport. they are sometimes cheaper. although, i don't know if the manuals are also available in english.
