Last year I went to the fourth floor of MBK and was surprised to find it nearly all mobile stalls.
Have the 'Big Boys' clamped down on pirated stuff?

So is there an answer to this?
I'm heading to Bangkok in a few weeks time and was hoping to pick up some CD's full of pirated software.
I haven't been to Pantip Plaza before, but I hope its still a wealth of products.
Also, Has anyone ever faced any problems with customs when they bring these CD's back to their home country? could they in theory confiscate them as they are copyright infrigments?
I was planning on taking a CD wallet to put them in (along with CD's of photos and music I'll also take and bring back with me)..
Any ideas?

I was at MBK yesterday. In the mobile phone section there were stores at the far end with cheap vcd's and some sold software. I think there might not be too much pirate stuff available now, as l was surprised to see a few shops that used to sell vcd's now empty. In a popular place like MBK it's not something you expect to see.
For somewhere not so well known to westerners, why not try Klongthom Center on the weekend. It's a cross between Pantip and Chatuchak. Pirate vcd/dvd's are still available there as of last week.

I was in Pantip plaza last week. New illegal DVD's and software were sold on the ground floor. There were like 15 guys there selling it. They have DVD and software covers and you just pick what you want. They don't have the cd's with them so you have to give them some time to get your cd's from elsewhere. DON'T pay up-front because the police is all around the place and if they are watching the guys then they will not give you your stuff and you are forced to hang around till it's safe again. I waited for 40 min. and it was still not safe. Decided to forget about it.
I'm from Holland and customs here will confiscate all illegal stuff if they find it. I mailed all the cd’s and credit card slips to myself. Better safe then sorry.

Don't you then risk customs intercepting them anyway?
I've had stuff grabbed by Aussie customs before.... They send you a note asking if you want it returned foir a refund (at your expense, and obviously not for stuff like this, but legal stuff elsewhere but not legal here), or want to appeal against it. If they hear nothing they destroy it in 30 days (I think it was 30).

hey, last year i got heaps of cds from india to australia and the customs didnt do anything at all... just stuff those cds in between ur clothes, and thats it.... u dont have to talk to them about it! they dont as anything...in case they do, jus tell them music cds u got as gifts, or educational software for study purpose.... and datz it

I was in Pantip last month.
I don't really understand the crackdown. Inside they are openly selling copy stuff.
I made my choice of CD's and DVD's. The guy said to come back in 20 minutes. I say OK and said that I was going outside for a smoke so no problem.
I hadn't finished my smoke.. I was still outside and the guy came to me, handed me the goods and I paid him. He didn't seem unduly nervous ????????

I was in Pantip last month also and just as I got half way through the 2nd DVD flip book the girl grabbed it out of my hands and everyone in the place was packing up boxes and taking them away. Seems they got a tip that the police were outside. An hour later everything was back to normal and business as usual. Peace

My experience was similar to cmore's. I placed my order and paid my money then all the vendors rushed to pack up and leave. I hung around for about 15 minutes and someone showed up with my discs.
I bring a CD wallet and mix the software with my music CDs and haven't had a problem with customs.
