As a result of my new "healthy lifestyle" I have lost a fair bit of weight and I now have a wardrobe full of suits, many of which were quite expensive which now fit really badly. I wondered whether any of the tailors in BKK are recommended for alterations (to get things to fit better). Of course plan B is to buy some new gear but I would prefer to have at least some of my better existing stuff altered to fit the new slimline me. Cheers Bucks

I recommend keeping all your old clothes and buying new ones, Bucks. Then, when you inevitably stack on the weight again, you can fit back into your old clothes.

Yea thanks for that Whisper, I would prefer to think of the glass as half full rather than half empty, so I am working on the assumption that I wont stack the weight back on. if I found the willpower to avoid P4P completely on my last trip to BKK I am sure I can dodge a few donuts Can anyone else help with the original query?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I just wanted to know if any one had any up to date recommendations for tailors in BKK ? This coming trip I really just want to get some "smart" trousers made, but might as well get the jacket too if more cost effective. Can anyone: a. recommend a good place (ie.decent quality/ no rip off) ? b. advise on the type of price I should be paying? Thanks in advance for your responses. MM

Try Narin Coiture on Sukhumvit Road, very close to Soi 8. Do a search of the shopping thread and you'll come up with more detailed info. Paris-trianed boss and all work done on site, not farmed out to sweatshops. I just had a winter coat done there, but they will be closed until Feb. 3 becauae of Chinese New Year.

Bump. Do tailors in Bangkok do suit alterations? Like the OP, I too have lost weight and I am looking for tailors that can take-in my existing suits. Is this possible? Recommendations?

I doubt it. I asked Narin if he'd do any alterations and he poo-pooed the idea with a feign of arrogance. He recommended I try the seamstress shop in the basement of Central Chitlom Dept. Store. Supposed to pick them up yesterday, as a matter of fact. Started with something rather simple: two long sleeved Ralph Loren shirts and a couple of pant hems. Loren shirts I expect to be a challenge, since they tailor to fit Pillsbury Dough boy in the arms and midriff, Ralph can't be caught missing out on a market niche, don't you know...
