Need help in pronouncing and translating Thai words. Just started learning it so figure might as well get it right the 1st time. Sorry in advance if some questions seem dense, but I was never an A or B-student in school.

5) touching

Also a little confused since saw many post with different sayings for (male response), is it : crap, kup, khrup or cap?
" Don't want": is it pronounce : my Ow or Me Ow
"Don't like it"--is it : my chop or my sharp or my shorp

Depends on whether you are American or English speaker, because what I write will change. But...correctly it has the ror rua sound (the R sound) and should be a short vowel sound. So crap=khrub (I don't understand your transliteration system) ; if you write in karaoke then it is khrub, krub, khrup, khrap etc - all make sense to Thai people. Better still, learn to write

I am sure that most of these phrases are well understood in English with the sort of people you use them on.
Or did you think a hooker doesn't know the difference between 'short time', and 'long time'.
Phrases like 'chua krao' (temporary) can subsequently confuse the girl... it could mean even a week or a month.

Sorry, U spell one differently here, Is it Neung or nueng?
and how is it pronounced
Neung= nee- ung (with the "ung" sounding like in the word sung?
Chua= chu-A (letter A sound) or chu-ah

for those helpful bro teaching Thai--many thanks;
here are a few more:
1) thousand= does it sound more like fan,pan or fun
2) girl= is it ying or jing?
3saying "goodbye"- is it La corn, La gorn, or La gone
4) Mai- sounds more like My, may or Ma--I
5) soi (the street) --is it soy (like in soy sauce or So--I
Note: Its sometimes difficult for me cause some words could be said in 2 or more ways --depending on which vowel is emphasized and even if the vowel is spoken like the letter itself. ex: a---sounding like the letter A or sounding like ah.
So after awhile, guess it gets easier, but just remember Im new at this, and want to be able to know the basics before I actually get there later this year.
--On the up side, guess I shouldnt feel too bad, cause read some "experts=long term expats' cant get it right either.

I've heard mai ao pronounced both ways, i.e., "my ao," and "may ao."
The Thai spelling would suggest that it should be "my ao" and that's the way my TGF and most people I've heard say it. I asked my TGF about this last year, and she seemed ambivalent about the rule. Not sure if it's a dialect issue, or just lazy Thai, or using a slightly different inflection based on the word it is paired with. Curious to hear sorapong's input on this, as he seems to speak an educated Thai, and seems to know the nuances of the grammar and word roots.

well, chua krao is definitely the one to use for short time in a hotel; I certainly would agree that given the other words you are asking, chances are they understand "tup sup" - so go with shorttime for the person, chua krao for a room.
nueng low tone; it really depends on what nationality you are as to what I write... so I describe what you should feel in your mouth (oh er, sounds a bit rude) :
if ning feels like the tip of your tongue touching middle of the roof of your mouth, then nueng should feel like the tip of your tonuge is moved forward to almost touch the back of your top teeth, and instead of just the tip of your tongue, it should be the first 2cm of your tongue about touching the roof of your mouth from that point just behind the back of your teeth back.
It is a single syllable, so it is neither nee or ung; nor is it saying them together very fast. I am thinking hard of an english word that sounds like this, and I cannot just yet, all are Thai words that rhyme with this one!
It is neiether a rhyme with sing nor a rhyme with merge; it is a sound I really cannot think of occuring in English, and nor does the ng sound either so much.
It deosn't really matter how you write it in english, your transliteration system will need to figure that out; since I usually read Thai in Thai, it is a non issue, hence my slackness in writing so called karaoke Thai.

ying - it actually is phoo ying, not just ying on its own
theoreitcally it is oo as in excrement, ying (rising tone), but practically, it comes out more like Poy (rhyming with boy, toy) ying (rising tone) ; this is due to the two words sitting together and thus the first vowel sound is somewhat shortened
la gorn (la mid tone, gorn is low tone) ; but practically most people just say bye bye or sawsasdee krub; I would not put this on a "top 100 words list"
mai: depending on what you want to say there are several ways to say it and this will change the tone: e.g. new, not, leaf, silk, question word,
If it is a "not, don't" type situation, then it is mai falling short tone rhyming with sky, my
Otherwise, sound is same, but tone may be low, falling, high, rising, high as per the list above
soi: yes like a soy sauce
A lot of expats have abismal Thai; hell, a lot of Thais foreign born and half Thais have terrible Thai. I cannot think off hand of any foreigners that started speaking Thai as an adult that can speak it like a Thai (including Andrew Biggs or P'Ken, Peter the actor, etc). But what will definitely help is make yourself learn how to read, and then you will actually knw for sure what tone you are supposed to be saying, and what vowel sound. Otherwise, you'll be stuck dealing with karaoke, which is easy at the beginning, but will start to get hard when yiou start developing a vocab with sounds like kao (them, knee, news, food, enter, white) or mai as I pointed out before; and there are a ton of meanings I don't even know, these are just the ones you hear every day.
Without the script, vowel length, exact sound and tone will be really hard to guage. But then again, I know a few Thais that cannot read and they get by ok; but mostly they started speaking and hearing as kids too.
I have seen some of Dr Love's posts, and he clearly knows a lot about the Thai language (and maybe also about the art of love) ; I don't know your backgruond Dr, but somehow you've got this good.... there are a few guys on Thai visa that are similar - not sure how they got there?! Practice? You want to comment Dr?

I never learnt Thai by going to school or reading books. Just picked it up by listening and talking with Thais. Most of my girlfriends could barely speak English and this has been an advantage for sure.
Secondly, I speak Thai for almost 24 hours per day. I even think in Thai.
But I realize that I still have a lot to learn. The main reason for me to learn Thai was that someone told me many years ago that general conversation in Thai only exists out of 1,000 words. I thought this wouldn't be a problem.
