Oh Doc, I'm right here you simpering, spelling-challenged nitwit.

in re, "Tawng gaan gallee" -- there's nothing particularly "polite" about "tawng gaan"; it simply means "need" (not "want"), and is utterly neutral in terms of politesse.

And who knows what you mean by "Aow gallee mai". You might be saying, in your typically pidgeon Thai, that you "fcuked a wooden whore", or that you "want a new whore", or maybe you're asking some one if they "want a whore"...or who the fluck knows. Clearly you don't.

nice to know i'm still stuck in yr craw, though.

Thanks for returning my call, Master of Dictionaries.

But alas, again a serious attempt to bash me, but no real content in your post.

Agreed about the translation of 'Thong Gaan' and 'Aow' as 'need' and 'want'. But again, pure dictionary translations.

In practical day-to-day use, in what you call pidgeon Thai, Thong Gaan can be used to add a polite sense to the sentence like 'Thong Gaan Kow Phat Moo' instead of 'Aow Kow Paht Moo'. Another example of adding politeness is 'Kor' which translates roughly as 'Please give me'.

Furthermore, for your information 'mai' was used to indicate a question as: "Do you need a whore?' What gave you the impression I didn't know what I meant?

BTW you forgot another way to translate 'Aow Gallee Mai' I want a whore named Mai'. But I guess that one wasn't in your dictionary and you couldn't recall it from your mind.

Pidgeon Thai? Perhaps, but at least I don't have to carry a dictionary.

What about a one-on-one contest with a Thai jury? Let's see who wins....

Good one Surapong!!

Then again your signature could mean...

Elephant sh_t, like beetles!!

....and, yes, I do know it doesnt mean that.

How do you know it's a good one, Abrak?

You obviously don't know the difference between a beetle and a grasshopper.

Dick...er, Doc --

you're always so quick to correct people, and so sensitive about "content" issues in posts (oh, and by the way, thanks professor, for another of your Thai.00001 lessons, this week's being your profound explication of that terrifically obscure Thai word for "please"), let's see you go beyond your typically dullard chastisement of Abrak for mistaking beetles for grasshoppers, and translate for him the real meaning of my signature. go ahead and knock me out, doctionary.

as to the need/want issues behind the "tawng gaan" vs "aow" question that you still are so resiliently tone-deaf to: telling a food vendor that you "tawng gaan" some pork fried rice is the equivalent of stepping up to the McDonald's counter and announcing "Madame, I require a Happy Meal."

but then, chances are you'd come across as a yutz in any language.

It seems also your memory sometimes fails.... it was you who started correcting a couple of months ago and trying to pose as a superior dick (ionary).

What about that one-on-one contest? Perhaps then I'll be convinced about your superiority of the Thai language.

Tip: look up 'want' in your dictionary (Se-Ed)... what's the primary translation in Thai... guess?

Thong Gaan is the polite form when using 'want'.

Period.
