From as far as I know it is as Suua says, most all thais have nicknames since their birth. The nicknames should confuse the ghosts who are not to know the thais real names. bkkz has done quite some research and listed the most common thai nicknames. We have heard most of the names and it is interesting to know how the TGs looked or behaved like when they were babies...

Something on my to do list, when I have too much time on my hands, is To find out meanings of Thai nicknames, in other languages. For example, "Yo Yo" means pussy in Latin American, or "Pookie" sounds like "puki" which means pussy in Tagalog or Malay.

Here is one to add to that list BK. One girl I met last time in LOS was called "Sau", which in a particular southern german slang means "pig".. but quite often used in an unfriendly context.
