Thanks Skip, I now know where the mistake was made. I said the word Phom with a "Ph" sound but rhyming with Tom, when it should've sound rhyming with Rome.

Not only was I pronouncing the word "phom" incorrectly, but most men speaking to me seem to be using "chan" or "chun"? when they refer to themselves? Dont really know why as I was inform "phom" should be used for males. Is there a real difference between the two. Thanks PT

yes phom is for males, chan (diichan) is for females. There can be regions or occasions when this is different.

Khun is the word you are looking for,,,, Khun "Fred"yu tee nai. where is Fred,, but usually the Khun is left out Fred yu tee nai. P.S Chun is I for both male and female.
