Last week in Pattaya I learned some more Lao when it was raining and have done some practise while barhopping. The one the BGs really liked most was "saowao", you should try this one! Not only with the BG, but also with the taxidrivers. 555...!

As I've said before: Isaarn is not exactly Lao.

MrJoe, The goodhearted TG was from Isaan and she said to me I want to learn you Lao. What choice did I have, caught in the rain for almost two hours... To your post, I have never experienced that a Isaan TG said stuff like "put Isaan", even there might be a difference between the Isaan dialect and the Lao language.

Colloquially Thais will refer to denizens of Isaarn as Lao but of course, they are not. In the same way, they will call Isaarn dialect "Lao"--but it is not. They share much but they are not identical.

Chan rak ter. = I love you. (One way of saying it.) They don't understand her because she is probably speaking Isaarn, which as I said a few times, is commonly reffered to as Lao BUT IT ISN'T. She may be speaking actual Lao, I don't know. But Isaarn dialect is something else.

MrJoe, Is the "chan" in "chan rak ter" a feminine "I?" My TGF taught me "koi mahk jaow lai lai." Is "koi" a masculine "I" in Isaan? - Balls
