My TGF pronounces it "dahkling" with the "k" not being to hard, so it's easy to slip that one by in a loud gogo bar, lol. She told me she never talked like that with the farangs she knew, though, as it was "poot mai supahp" (not polite talk) and disrespectful. Different strokes...

Ah, sorry to mislead in my observations--perhaps I should qualify.
My point was really only that while Thais do of course like to play with words and say the right thing and while their way of speaking has great meaning in terms of their social relations etc... at the same time I would not expect a Thai to write a novel--relatively very few would even read a novel all the way through--however this of course is a generalization having more to do with their cultural upbringing which most Thai professors I've spoken to describe as more feeling-oriented whereas they would describe Western people as brought up more thought-oriented. Therefore although I do expect them to be very sensitive to how they speak or how others speak, I do not expect them (again, in general) to think too much in words and logical combination founded on abstractions in words. This should occur in proportion to their experience with contemporary Western education. That is to say, that our critical thinking faculties may be taking place in a way in our brains which has more to do with using language as a tool for analysis of language than theirs (which may have more to do with using feelings as a tool for analysis of everything, including language).
I don't know how well I've expressed that; I realize it may seem overly-complex.
As for this subject of monkey's ass or whatever, I have never yet encountered in Thailand a girl working in a bar who would dare say such things to me. I too have a pretty broad sense of humor, but that shows incredible contempt for the tourist or foreigner who can't speak Thai and would simply never fly with me. I feel sorry for guys who've been called a name like that and then paid for the girl too! Inconceivable. And then I also feel sorry for the bitter girl who holds her customers in such contempt and yet has to do the nasty with them. If I wanted this kind of experience I'd go back to my own country, plenty of it there and not only in P4P. That's one of the reasons I (except for a couple notable exceptions) avoid the venues popular with tourists or H444. If this goes on there; don't know where else it could? Yuk.

The sound difference between Darling and Dargling, is extremely small and brings a wonderful smile to my face when I hear it so many times said to other Farang.
The times it has been said to me I reply " Thah phom ling, phom jaai klai klai ling, khun chawp kluay mai ?,,, LOL
If I am Monkey then I pay like Monkey,, do you like banana ( the banana word in pronounce kluay, I shorten the l, thus using the thai slang for dick ).

I wonder. In Thailand, picking your nose is not as vulgar as it's in our Western society.
I remember the first time when I came to Thailand, about 24 years ago, that a bargirl started to stick her finger in my nose to clean it.
My father, on a visit to Thailand in 1987, understood why so many Thais have big nose holes....
