To get back to your original questions.It would be best to get a phrase book and use that. But only for questions tha trequire a simple answer. If you learn a phrase like "excuse which is the way to....." and you manage to pronounce it half right then you are going to get an answer in Thai!! Then you are bolloxed.
Yes, although I agree with you that a book can help (I am planning to purchase small pocket size before leaving), the book can only go so far as translate (but not that well in how words should be pronounced). Like I said in beginning of this thread, I actually need help in how the words "sound" in Thai (special thanks to Bros like Local Yokul, Darknite, Dr.Love, Waxhead,etc --if I left your name out--this thanks go to all of U helpful guys out there.) they have been most helpful in giving the very hints I need that is not covered in any books. They will give the translations with what it should sound like ( ex. the thai words rhythms with "_____"), with this I can not only visualize the word but practice them (BTW-also makes it easier to remember with a rhythm), because like I said earlier, depending on how word is spelled,it could be said in 2-3 different ways-and the word therefore could have a totally different meaning.
As to being answered in Thai, it will not be as much a problem since someone can point me in the right direction or show me on a map ( yes, plan to carry one of these also), so more important if they 1st understood what Im asking them (How do I get there or Do you know where this is? etc,) so knowing the basics and saying it correctly can save me alot of time and possibly keep me out of trouble--hee hee.

I did see your previous post on "Koh____"=for beg/request, but I only saw the translation as "beg" and not for request. Kinda skipped my mind cause I thought I will be saying this phrase on my hands and knees in front of some girl=for Begging only. (not that it won't happen) ha ha

sorry bro, it does sound funny, maybe should not have said "blocks", since this is equivalent to streets in the US only and can be confusing. ex: #of blocks= #of streets.
how is "liew" pronounced? is it = lee-eel

the BKK list helps, I am reading it as we speak, but dont know if this list includes the sound for the words--my computer cant seem to get that part.
Btw: is there a difference (different words) for girl and woman?
and is there a plural for girls (more than 1 girl) ?
also, (lets say I'm at a MP) --what is best way to say "how many girls do you have here" or" how many girls are available"?
