hi MrJoe.
the 'tran dak tor' bit was in the original question.
she said to me 'i love you' and when i asked her how it was spoken in Thai that was how she pronounced it.

but since then i always heard it as 'chan rak ter/tor'.
was just a little confused on which would be the correcy way of saying it.

think the actual Isarn dialect translation is something like "kow muk jaw"  - Chun ruk ter of course the Thai equvilent.

TPE,

My TGF pronounces it a little different than that -- check out the 1st post on 1st page of this thread for what she says to me. Suppose there are different dialects of Isaan too, certainly I'm no expert.

i think this is a difficult point.

Balls has said one thing,TPE something different and i'm totally f_cked.

i know what my girl used to say to me,but i still do not know what dialect she was talking in.

when it comes down to it,it's not important,i know what she meant and i appreciated it.

Nokna,

You do know that southern Thai is another dialect and that some girls from Isaarn (those whose province borders on Cambodia) speak a Cambodian dialect?

But I don't think what you are describing is southern and I know it's not "Cambodian".

- I get confused [ yeah daily ] but even between the Issarn Dialect, and the actual Laos dialect,  - some TGs say they speak Lao, but I now think that is actually Issarn e.g. "SAP E-LEE  DER " =  a-roi mahk mahk   or
"BOW BEN YUNG DOK" =  mai pen rai / never mind. -  Likewise the Khamen spoke by those from Buriram, Surin, Si Saket - is not the same as spoke in Phanom Phen -

TPE,

Right you are.

I keep saying this but noone seems to hear; The Thais typically call the residents of the provinces bordering either Laos or Cambodia and the dialects they speak, as either Lao or Cambodian, respectively.

It is a Thai colloquialism and it is not accurate. The residents of those area are of course Thai, and the dialects they speak are also.

I found a discussion about this topic in an other forum:

The Thai-Lao/Isan vs. Lao languages

And if you are not yet confused have a look at the Thailand Linguistic Map.
