A lady friend of mine, when speaking with friends or market people, often refers to me as gair (old?). eg gair chorp gai.
Is this a nice way to speak of me or is this the 'he can't speak Thai, so I can say this crap?"

Mine calls me Sor-A-Dong. The meanest way to ever address a nice person like myself......

Kiddies, don't ever use this in the Land of Smiles. Words like I-Sat (animal) are probably nicer to use.

Cher chorp gai (old likes chicken) ? But perhaps our language professor can take out his collection of dictionaries and look it up for us. I don't have such prized possessions......

Doc, the least you could do is find a new riff on my moniker; the one you're clinging to so desperately has been used by virtually every other halfwit poster on this forum. And really, who on earth could make sense of a transliteration like "Cher chorp gai"? Nevermind your tone-deaf variation on "chawb"; are you refering to the late Sonny Bono's old singing partner when trying to produce a sound even vaguely like the Thai word for "old (person, not thing) "? And by the way, I like the effect you've produced in trying for what I presume is "Ai Sat" -- which doesn't mean "animal", but rather "f_cking animal"; your attempt makes it seem as if you are refering directly back to yourself, as in the old Christopher Lee variation on Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde -- *I, Monster*.

I'll skip the dict's, thanks; there are more than enough of those here. Anyone with more than a ladydrink-thimble's full of colloquial Thai knows that the word "Geh" (sounds alot like "gay", or the Thai word for "old (person, not things) ") means "you", or "him/her" -- that is, it can be used in the same way one would use "khun" or "khao". It is somewhat less polite than "ter", but certainly more acceptible than "mung".

Edge, your TG is not insulting you by using this term; personally, I'd rather be refered to "Geh" than "man" (that's a Thai word, too; used to refer disparagingly to "him/her", though it is technically a classifer only used for animals) -- but (speaking of thimbles) I don't want to get into waters too deep for Dr. Dolt to tread.

Pour the old quack another Shirley Temple, girls, and put it on my "bin".
