Usually when I visit, Muang Thai, I pick up one or two CDs that I theoretically use to practice and reinforce my bad Thai skills. Typically I choose some generic Thai girl pop singer because they sing very clearly and the printed lyrics are usually included. They also have the advantage that most of the songs are about love and heartbreak, so much of the vocabulary can be applied to real life (or what passes for it in the bars of Bkk); just about every song has either "rak" or "jai" in the title. This isn't really the kind of music I would select for enjoyment, but the few Thai bands I've actually enjoyed (e.g. the ubiquitous Carabao) don't sing clearly and sing about random topics that I can't hope to understand. The sad part is that after playing these bubblegum songs a few times they get stuck in my head and I almost enjoy them. Does anyone have any suggestions for good Thai music that can reinforce the language? What do manly Thai men listen to, anyway?

Obviously, music depends on taste, but I would say LOSO would be a good stepping stone from pop to heavier stuff. Transliteration would require a kareoke cd, and rapid reading skills ... im practicing reading Thai, and intend to buy a Lyric book ...

Turn on your radio and listen to Luuktuungfm (FM95.0), Hotwave (FM91.5) or any else. All the moderators speak very clear.Much easier to understand than (silly) TV.

Initially try Mae (mother) by Loso: it is easy language, very clear and relatively east to understand, and also a great song. Also arai ko Yom by Loso as well

I agree with bro FarangBha and think that Loso is good choice to learn some Thai and sing along. Here is a song with the English translation, I sing it in Thai without lyrics. YEP...! Som Sahn (Hesitant) Gerd ma mai keree jer krai muen ter Since I was born I've never met anyone like you Lup fun lamer pahb ter koy lohn took keun I always dream about you in my sleep every night Lup long krao dai yahk non mai yom theun Every time I drift off to sleep I never want to wake up Gor took kum keun, jer ter tee pblaai fa glai Every night I see you in the edges of the sky Gor dai thae per thae fun lom lom All I can do is get delirious, to dream about you quietly Gor long cheun chom doy ter mai roo thua So I am infatuated by you without you knowing it Jer ter tee rai, jid jai then rua, chun glua chun glua ter mai son jai Every time I see you my heart beats loudly, I'm afraid you might not take notice * Yahk dern kao pbai bohk wa ruk ter I want to go in and tell you that I love you Wela tee jer tee ter song yim ma Every time I notice that you are smiling at me Muen dung loke nee sod sai keun tun tha It's like the whole world just brightened in my eyes Nai chuang wela tee thong garn krai kao jai suk kon Whenever you need someone to understand Hak ter mee krai gor bohk gun suk noy If you already have someone, please tell me Yah hai chun koy koy ter yang nee leree Don't let me go on with my wishful thinking like this Hai koy nahn nahn, mun som sarn roo mai eree Don't make me wait this long, I'm very hesitant, you know Ying ter tum cheree chun eng ja ba thaai The more you remain aloof each time I get crazier
