Does anyone know how much it would cost to send a TGF (mmm.. perhaps more accurately... an involuntary time-shared Thai girl...) to do a 5 week basic English course in Bangkok? I have heard from a bar girl that a 30 hour course over 5 weeks (that is 6 hours per week) costs 10,000 baht. Is this accurate or is she inflating the cost of a typical course?

Price can vary a lot, according to several factors.
#1. Is the teacher a native English speaker or Thai/Asian? Add minimum 20% for native.
#2. Depends what basic means. Just speaking, or some grammar and/or writing as well.
#3. What books have to be purchased?
#4. Class size, one on one, three students, or lots of students?
I've got a brochure from ECC. They have language schools in Thailand and overseas.For general English with a Thai/Asian teacher they are quoting 10K for 20 hours, 19.2K for 40 hours, 44K for 100 hours. Lots of branches in Bangkok. Try http://www.eccthai.com
Usually many ads in Bangkok Post. e.g. http://www.thaismeplaza.com/ruanpaasaa offers group lessons, 60 hours/4,500 bht.

Just looking at that brochure again, which is in English and Thai. I think it might be 10K for 20 lessons, not hours! Each lesson being 3 hours. l

A little off topic, but here it goes. Where can an English speaking person go to learn some basic Thai? While I'm there I would like to learn some Thai maybe an hour or so per day for 2 weeks. Thanks.

Try NEP or Soi Cowboy - prices are about 200 to 300 baht per hour but you do get free beer while you are studying
Private one on one teaching is available at around 1500 - 2000 for a 8 hour sesion with plenty of props and useful item that you get to use during your education

LOL, that must be the most common way to start taking language lessons. There are some pretty good sites in the net though. Problem seems to be the pronounciation of words -I just started learning thai at net, not so hard. Should learn the letters though, but too little time for me, only 15 days to go.
My aim is to understand Aim of course.
